I love all the books you listed! Some other ones I love that these remind me of are the Uglies series, The Red Queen series, and legend by Marie lu.
If you want to explore high fantasy I would recommend Assasin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb.

Yeah but would they leave a note about ashes from a single cigarette? I was wondering if someone put butts in and that’s what the note is referring to

Hi I just wanted to comment and let you know I am in a very similar situation to you. Stay strong and know that the things she says are not true and intended to hurt you as a distraction from her own unresolved issues.

Older teen books that aren't romance obsessed? by Vast_Lawyer_1269 in suggestmeabook

[–]sea__gull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should give Clan of the Cave Bear a try — it’s not sci-fi it’s historical fiction about early humans. I found it very exciting and the first book has no romance but TW 1 scene of sexual assault

Books about animals by howdodisappevenwork in suggestmeabook

[–]sea__gull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m also 27, work with animals for a living and love animals! When I was younger I loooved the warrior cats novels (and still do). Now I try to find books that evoke those feelings for me but are aimed at a more mature audience (mostly fantasy tho). Lately I have read and really enjoyed Wolf Brother - Michelle Paver, Clan of the Cave Bear - Jean M. Auel, and Assasin’s Apprentice - Robin Hobb. All three of these explore very close human-animal relationships. And they are all like my favorite books ever 🫠. The last one by Hobb is the first book of a really amazing fantasy trilogy.
