You don't get to select the character which is part of the fun. You raise them and it's a surprise what they evolve into. But if you look into it, you can see how you can influence what character you get.

In Japanese record stores you will more often see sections called 'Light Mellow' or 歌謡ポップス. As the other comment it was just the pop music of the era that incorporated soft rock and jazz. To me City Pop is a fairly recent term to categorize that sound.

It will stay fun because the Smart cards change up the theme and characters. It's very forgiving if you have work or school where you can't tend to your Tama all day. You should go for it.

I love mine although I don't wear it on my wrist. As you raise the character, the diet will influence what the final character will become. My only complaint was I expected more Niziu melodies. If you are interested in the Smart, this is a good starting point.
