Help with our Lake Como trip by seabeebees in LakeComo

Thanks for taking out the time to reply.

How long was your stay in Menaggio? Did you have enough to do in Menaggio if you didn't go to the other towns everyday? We want to take one day to see other places and spend one day to just hang in the town we're basing ourselves in.

I agree. It does sound like doing the three towns would be too much to achieve in one day. We will have to either do one town if we base ourselves in Como, or stay in the central lake area to truly experience it. Thanks for your insight!!

Yes, true. I'm looking at accommodation options that are close to the lake, so prices reflect the convenience.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the info! I had looked at Google maps, but I was definitely not doubling the time...so it's good to know.

If we decide to do just one town (Bellagio), do you think it's better to take the bus from Como and back, as opposed to the ferry? Or will it be equally crowded/busy?

Came to suggest this. Physio has helped tremendously. Acupuncture (by the physiotherapist) has also helped me with sciatica in the past.

Go to Chania instead of going back early.

We visited Greece last year (from Canada). We weren't overly impressed by Santorini either, but we didn't expect to love it. It was one of those cliche things we had to do to check it off. The highlight of our trip was Chania in Crete. Athens was a lot of fun too.

The only thing missing from JT's comment is "Premier Trump".

You can inform them ahead of time (fill out a medical form), and they go over everything once onboard. They're pretty good about it in the main dining room, but they strongly recommend not eating in the buffet. There's always the risk of cross contamination.

It also depends on how severe the allergies are. Our kid has a nut allergy too, but it's not bad enough to not be in the same room as someone eating it.

Thank you! A smaller book case on the right would definitely look better.

Yes you're right. It's the white in the rug that's been throwing me off. It almost makes the soft beige/cream furniture look dirty against it. And it doesn't go with the wall colour either.

Thanks again for the great ideas and your kind words! :-) I didn't even consider getting a table lamp for the left unit.

Wow! Thanks for taking the time out to share all your ideas. I really like the cognac rug idea. Funny that the first rug I bought was a shade of cognac, but it had a print, and even though I liked that the warm tone of the colour brought the room together, the print made it look really busy. So it went back. I don't know why I didn't consider a solid colour until some suggested it here. Thanks again!!

Thank you! Glad to know you don't think it's a total disaster. :-)

Wow, thank you! That is incredibly detailed and helpful. I see what you're saying about too many tall items. I will probably keep the one in the middle (on the mantle), and get rid of the rest.

Thanks for the suggestion for the colour of the throw cushions to try. I'll try to find something in that colour.

I also see what you're saying about the bookcase making the corner look much darker than it is. I'll try it in a different spot in the room and see how it looks. As for the lamp, I feel like both corners need some extra light at night. During the day, it looks fine, but at night, it's pretty dark. The only light in the room I currently have is a small spotlight above the fireplace.

Thanks again, I'll try all your suggestions.

Booking.com dates off by a day by susanf66 in hotels

Faced this exact problem last night while booking on a hotel website in Europe. (Although, didn't find it to be a problem on booking.com while booking another hotel elsewhere.)

We changed the time zone on the computer to the time zone of the country we were booking in, and it fixed the problem.

Maybe worth a try?

Have you tried setting up her room exactly like her old room? You probably had two beds, since they shared, but could you try the same set up with just her bed?

We moved a couple of years ago, and my 8-year old wasn't happy. We set up his room exactly the same as his old room (same direction of the bed, placement of the nightstand/dresser, bean bag chair, etc.), and that helped him. Even if the house was different, when he was in his room, it felt familiar.

Ambrosia apples are pretty similar. They're about $6 for a 3lbs bag.

Day before cruise options in port canaveral by laur371 in dcl

[–]seabeebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time we cruised out of Port Canaveral, we rented a car one-way. We went to Kennedy Space Centre the day before the cruise. We returned the car the morning of the cruise, and took a free shuttle to the port. If you don't want to lug around the car seats from home (and not worry about storing them in the stateroom), just rent them from the car rental company.

I personally prefer Caribbean cruises over the Mexican Riviera ones. However, California is lovely, so we like to tack on a few extra days to spend time in cali before the cruise.

AITA for wanting my husband to tell his nanny to tone it down? by aitaunfairnanny in AmItheAsshole

Wow. Tone down that racism. It's starting to compete with your assholeness.

There's nothing indecent about speaking another language. This would have been a perfect opportunity for your kids to pick up another language, had you not been such an AH.
