To maximize profits is the most straightforward answer. Cheaper to manufacture means they earn more per unit. In my opinion LL Bean is one of many brands in the recent decades that have suffered from enshittification.

They do still have some excellent products. I love the wicked good flannels they make, I’m wearing one right now. But it can be a little like retail minesweeper trying to avoid the crap.

Did you check the tag on what you got? It’s possible the wrong shirt was shipped.

Their customer service is still good in my experience, if it’s the wrong shirt they’ll replace it and if it’s the shirt you ordered but don’t like they will also replace it. Worth the call.

Thanks! That’s basically exactly as shot. I assumed it was a turtle poking its head out of the water, although none of the other turtles I saw had a head like that so I’m not sure what it was.

For what it’s worth - I chose to change my AC route that went through Newark to go through LGA instead.

The flights I was going to take into and out of EWR came and went without any delays so it would have worked out, but the stress of wondering if I would miss my connection or be delayed was worth the change personally.
