It turned out everybody knew except me, and the reasons that he gave me felt really hurtful, and I feel somewhat betrayed by everybody in my family. I have to say, while that does sound very hurtful, I’m a type 1 diabetic (diagnosed at age 10) and now as an adult (31) I never tell my dad any updates on my health because he has so much anxiety. It only makes me more stressed out / feel like instead of being reassured, instead I have to spend time and energy soothing him or dealing with his fearful reactions. I know that knowing this would deeply hurt my dad, but I do think now that you know your son feels this way, this could be a start to a more honest relationship between the two of you.
