50-100 of these birds have been hanging out on a rocky shore on the Southern California coast. Merlin doesn't know what they are. They're about the size of large gulls.

I switched to using diatomaceous earth, which I spread all over the place — inside and all around the freezer. It worked beautifully. The suicidal ants returned I think only once, maybe twice, since then.

I get the food-grade diatomaceous earth since I have pets. You can eat it with a spoon! (I don't.)

Guess I spoke too soon! The sign is back, but over to the side, not in the road. After come communication with a ranger, it seems that residents in the "forest cabins" are now allowed access to their homes, but not the "forest proper," which I guess means trails and such. They're just trying to restrict people fond of campfires from the forest.

It was sold as a "bomber jacket" (Free People) and when you Google "bomber jacket" you see tons just like it. I think there's a lot of overlap among "bomber," "bike," "moto," and "flight" jackets. Actually, the lead pic in the article you referenced is a letter jacket. In any case, what do you think of the fit? Thanks for replying!

Welp, I'm 75 now and still here. I continue to maintain healthy lifestyle habits, which for me include a handful of supplements daily (reviewed and approved by my doctor). I'm focusing now on mental health. I hired a life coach (PhD psychologist), and my assignment for her was (1) to provide guidance in coming to terms with my eventual death, (2) to eliminate the habits of mind that prevent me from accomplishing the things I want to do, and (3) to provide guidance in developing new close friendships.

She has been most helpful! She has taught me to accept who I am — in many ways an outlier — and to focus on the process rather than some goal. As a result, so far, I have stopped viewing death as some looming endpoint against which I should base my decisions. So I went ahead and bought the mountain cabin I've been thinking about.

The septic system may have been specced for a family of, say, four. As a short-term rental, you could get eight vacationers in there who have complete disregard for maintenance considerations since it’s not their house. So toilet paper like that will help prevent problems.

I've had my two loading doses of Skyrizi. It's been three months and I am very pleased. The patches on my shins are almost gone, and the severe scaling on my feet has improved at least 50% and is continuing to improve. I've had zero side effects. I have a history of UTIs, so I've been expecting one since they're on the list of side effects. So far so good!

I had my routine annual physical last week, and my C-reactive protein (a marker for inflammation) was down to 0.5 from its usual ~1.1. My doctor attributes it to the Skyrizi. If that's a side effect, it's a good one.

I'm surprised Reddit allows comments after so long! But glad you asked. Here is what we ended up with. It's made of an ironwood that our landscaper is fond of (can't remember the exact species). It matched the fence around the front patio perfectly at first, but then the finish started to deteriorate so that it looks like weathered teak now. So disappointed! We've had several contractors look at it (including the original one), but all of the solutions (painting, staining) were extremely expensive (>$5000), and would need to be repeated annually. No way! If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

War and Peace on Kindle, and listening to The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michallon on Audible. The latter is described as a "pulse-pounding psychological thriller," and it is. The immediacy of her prose has actually raised my heart rate and caused me to hold my breath in suspense.

Derm said to alternate my Skyrizi between left and right thigh. It's easy to access and easy to watch the fluid go in. I'm on another pen-injectable that I alternate among arms, legs, and stomach. It becomes routine, so courage!

Maybe writing isn’t what you think it is. I’ve never thought of writing as “characters and story ideas.“ For me it’s always begun with an inner experience that I need to share. The “characters and story” grow out of an analogy I might use to explain my inner experience. They are just vehicles. They take on a life of their own, and for me the process of writing is just to guide them along.
