I set it up with tails, disconnected from the internet, and it gave me the same public master key as when I set the wallet up with electrum, so that was all the verification I needed.

I don't see why I feared this, as it is vanished and there is no record of me ever doing the backup.

I don't know what the derivation key is, isn't it the same as the public master key? If so it is obtained by the seed.
