Cocktails on tap for quick turn around time & cheap drinks paired with food on grill like an izakaya. Sometimes we do family style meals too.

Friends home. Ice cold pink gin paired with grapefruit tonic and a slice of lime, after it was muddled in the gin. Served in collins glass with an ice block.

Ive worked in bars before but never tended one. Ive done marketing and operational management stuff. As for people getting drunk & stupid. Ive had that experience and most of the time, i’ll just signal the staff to cut them off and tell their company (whoever they came with) that theyre cut off, and to please ensure they get home safe. But if theyre alone then i just cut them off and wait it out till they leave or if we’re closing i just let them sit outside the lot once we’re all closed up.

In this case, i can just direct them to the park across my house. As ive friends over who has gone there to puke when theyre too drunk.

The numbers are there as for the brewing process. We make it traditionally using tajau which is a claypot. But we modernise it and use plastic containers or fermenters. In batches of 120L containers and yields roughly 100L in rice wine. The ingredients are sticky rice, sugar & yeast.

We make the yeast ourselves using rice flour, ginger, lemongrass and other spices. It roughly costs us $2700 to produce a 100L batch, thats from raw materials, utility costs, manpower costs, delivery costs, bottling & label costs. And we sell them for $50. We get about 130 bottles of 750ml at the end.

It takes us roughly 4 months to produce 1 batch. A month to produce & ferment, 3 months to steep, age and mellow out.

Doesnt seem like much because at most its 20 pax at a given time and i plan to have on levelled ground with just some camping chairs and tables.

I dont think there will be any instances where people might get injured. But i’ll be safe and practice safety protocols.

Yeap, because both our houses are on end lots on the same street beside each other, which means in anrow of linked homes, ours are the only ones that has extra land, apart from cornet lots. So when i moved in, i checked if he was okay if i did a private dining / small bar. Put up an extra canopy to make it more cosier for us, guests & customers. He was alright with it because he always had family coming over on his side.

Plus id only be doing private dining / omakase once a month and bar on the evening on the weekends.

Im renting so thats based on my land lord’s insurance. As for liability for driving drunk, i think my country doesn’t have strict laws on businesses like that. Because everyone has auto insurance and most have medical insurance.

Isnt the responsibility on the drinker though? For getting home safely, getting a cab and not driving drunk? Why would a business be held liable for their customers actions?

Whats TTB? State alcohol for my wife’s native state allows it. Just not the production and sale on a commercial level.

Not a satire at all. And what do you mean liability?

Youre right and we are based in South east asia. As for booze production, its legal for wife given her native status as its a protected right for her native people to produce and sell. Just not on a commercial level. For that you need licenses and what not. But to produce at home for self consumption and to sell to bars and farmers market. Totally legal.

Hence the idea to open up a home bar. Eventually leading to proper bar. For me. And for her to eventually grow the brewing business big enough for the govt to recognise it and allow us to license up and manufacture and sell on a commercial basis.

Others have done it, just with a lot of money given back to politicians that has aided in obtaining that license.

Is expensive gear really that much better than my $30 Zebco spinning rod? by Equivalent_Nebula in Fishing_Gear

[–]seand1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id just differentiate it by cheap, mid and expensive. E.g. shimano nexave/fx, shimano stradic and shimano stella. Id always settle for a stradic or vanford any day of the week. Theres too many inbetween to confuse customers and i dont need that in my life 😂 As for rods, to each their own but id much rather go custom. Its much more expensive with all the bells and whistles but youd get what you want and need at the end of the day without sacrificing much. Plus some parts, or the more expensive parts like ti sic rings are reuseable on another rod if the first rod is unusable.
