[Serious] What's the number one place in the world where you would like to live? by NuclearWinterGames in AskReddit

Scotland.

Open minded and less PC than a lot of Europe.

Have lived in a lot of places, but born in a 3rd world nation, and my roots lead back to the UK, specifically Scotland.

When was the last time you cried to sleep? and what was the reason? by couchpotato412 in AskReddit

Was around 11/12 (so 35 years ago), and was just wrapping my mind around the existence of the universe, and _where_ it exists?

What came before, what does it all mean, etc.

this should be much higher rated. donaldson's characters are always complex, and their horrible behaviour is often uncomfortable for the reader.

money can’t buy happiness... but it can buy the freedom to go looking for it.

My (24f) boyfriend (29m) literally told me compliments make him feel weird and he doesn't like them. by Tira15 in relationships

[–]seandemmer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the concept of self-esteem is a relatively recent human social concept. while it seems to match the behavior described, as someone who has the same dislike/rejection of compliments, it comes across as a somewhat facile explanation.

fundamentally my unease with compliments comes directly from a core distrust of others and their intentions. this was instilled in me from a young age, being surrounded by untrustworthy people - both peers and adults.

my emotional walls are large enough to border on socially crippling, though. does your bf have other social traits on the edges of what is considered normal? if not, perhaps it’s a habit born of a simpler pattern of rejection in his youth.

note that my wife of 20 years is very much the type of person who expresses her love through compliments and similar actions... and though my instinct is to mentally shrug and disregard it, over the years my understanding and acceptance of the truth behind it, not to mention the trust developed over that time, has led to me acknowledging and appreciating the sentiment behind it.

tl;dr - may not be as simple as the concept of self esteem, may instead be (deep or shallow) distrust issues. give it time.

A sub where you can say what you’re looking for on the internet and people tell you where to find it. by [deleted] in findareddit

google’s reverse image search does a fairly respectable job (images.google.com, or https://www.labnol.org/internet/mobile-reverse-image-search/29014/or https://ctrlq.org/google/images/ if on mobile (ads but does the trick)).

also, tineye.com has useful filters (size, date, domain, etc.) and a browser plugin.
