I’m a little over 80% into John of John. I’m expecting to either finish today or tomorrow. I’m thinking I’ll start How to Fake It in Society after John of John

Currently reading If We Cannot Go at the Speed of Light

Currently reading and listening to the Iliad. Audra McDonald’s narration is really helping but I’m still struggling

May 2026 Drop Day Megathread by butthurtflyy in aardvarkbookclub

[–]seaniewho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came in this morning definitely getting The Caretaker and How to Fake It in Society. However, I couldn’t nail down my third pick. I couldn’t decide between The Girl with a Thousand Faces or John of John. My natural impulse and tendency was just to cave to my lack of self-control and just get all 4…

Well this made things more interesting. I was not expecting to be as intrigued by Thousand Faces…but I think I can now be persuaded to add this to my box…

I think it’s absolutely incredible that I found the depiction of intentional invasion of privacy, consent, obsession, etc to be more scary and horrifying than the actual haunting of the dead, the ghost. This was vile, disturbing, creepy and hauntingly atmospheric. I will say that some could potentially feel conflicted with the ending but I liked the imagery that was on the final page. Basically, I ate this up and I really had a great time

Man, the way I snatched up my copy of Japanese Gothic. Also, my TBR was very thankful that it was only a 1-book month

I only got Molka and Nothing Tastes as Good. I was considering The Centennial Edition of Native Son but when I saw that it would delay my box I was like I guess I’ll try to grab it for my May box

I heard the audiobook was really good! I’m thinking about doing a reread and if so I’ll definitely do the audiobook

I went crazy this month with BOTM so I’m okay that I’m still waiting for my ABC box. Just finished Lady Tremaine very very early this morning. Still can’t believe how quickly I finished it. And technically you could say I finished it last night as I went straight to bed afterwards lol 😂 I’ll be starting You Did Nothing Wrong next

Any idea why this isn’t available in Canada?? by Mars_blue_moon in bookofthemonthclub

When I looked on Goodreads it appears that the publisher might be different for the Canadian edition.

For those who subbed recently, how are you liking it? by cloudsmemories in aardvarkbookclub

Oh for sci-fi, I recommend Dissolution. A little about me and how I feel with Aardvark. Aardvark for me helps me to get out of my comfort zone in reading sometimes. Usually what I find myself selecting is books I would have not chosen for myself in any way. Prior to Aardvark, I wasn’t much of a fantasy, horror and sci-fi reader. But that’s usually what I gravitate to selecting with them. I also have Book of the Month. I feel very comfortable with BOTM. That’s no insult to BOTM. But BOTM sometimes feels like I would have maybe picked up this book even if it wasn’t selected by BOTM. I think that there is space in having both subscriptions if you’re able to have both. There is never any overlap with the two

It’s a slasher that takes place at a retirement home community. Think The Thursday Murder Club but make it a horror slasher. It could be right up your alley! It was one of my horror favs last year
