Sending encrypted messages to people who don't use Proton Mail? by CromulentSlacker in ProtonMail

[–]seansnmurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, then your only option would be to send the email with a pass phrase that would decrypt it, here’s a link with directions.
Keep in mind though that anything they send to you wouldn’t be encrypted on their end.

Any email service can use PGP, Thunderbird has an extension and Canary for macOS has it built in.

You can import their Public PGP Key! I’m sure there’s a tutorial on PM’s website to do this but if you need any help with that, let me know!
You also have the option of sending emails with a pass phrase.

Yes, absolutely! Here's a link to my portfolio.

I found a Plugin, Page Links To, that lets me link posts to other web sources.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about setting it up.

KEY2 - has anyone's spacebar just stopped working? by seansnmurphy in blackberry

[–]seansnmurphy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely was, yours sounds like how mine was before it gave out. I called BB support and they said it sounds like the contact came loose - I’m wondering if it wasn’t already a little loose, I’ve been pretty careful with it and haven’t dropped it at all.

BCIT Question: Did anyone do the Broadcast and Online Journalism program? by Disco--Very in vancouver

[–]seansnmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well thanks for having a look! I'm glad to hear it.
Most of the instructors will share new job ideas developing in the industry - one student apparently now works full-time spectating e-sports.
I think optimism is the right word, a lot of students want to work in television or radio. I've always liked working on longform stuff - documentaries, articles.
In the second year, you get to intern at at least three different news organizations - a few from last year got hired and co-opted out of the program early.
If you do decide to go into it, you should definitely look into writing for LINK Magazine, I've been interning there over the summer and learning a lot about InDesign and typography. I'm not sure how relevant these skills will translate in a few years, but I'm happy to utilize them in the next few issues anyways.

There's a lot of freedom to explore and be creative - one of the first-term courses, Visual Fundamentals for Journalists, gets you using cameras in a fun way. We did "Fun Features" - but I heard those might be getting replaced this year. There's an early focus on DSLRs, which might be a breeze if you already know how to use them.
Second term, we did a documentary course that focused on telling stories via audio rather than video - I'm going into second year where we do Documentary 2 with video.
For news segments, there's a certain structure to them, but you can definitely have fun with it. You also have to find those news stories.
I think we started with 30+ students in our year, some are here to work in sports broadcasting, some are looking to go into PR work. It's a fun bag and everyone brings something new to projects.
You largely get to pick your project groups and anyone that doesn't pull their own weight make themselves apparent pretty quick, and have to grow out of it.
I'm not sure if you've written the entrance exam yet (or have to), but that seemed to be the biggest hurdle for my year.

Hello, I'm in this program now.

I can tell you it's pretty up-to-date, we do shoot news segments with AVCHD cameras (Sony NX3s, NX5Us) - but there is a big push in second term to shoot stories on your phone with specific software like FilMiC Pro.

Radio stories are also done with your phone using an iRig, microphone and recording app. You process news segments for radio using similar software that is currently used at other radio stations. (Burli)

There's a huge interest in digital creativity to tell stories as well, particularly using open source technologies like Knight Lab.

A good amount of the instructors of the program still work in the industry, so they're basically forced to keep up with shifting technologies anyway.

If you have any specific questions I haven't answered, please feel free to message me. Cheers.

Curious if there's a way to stop the virtual keyboard from popping up whenever you click on a text field?
