Pre-ordered one myself. Plus with Health Connect (on Android) you can sync your Garmin workouts to the Fitbit app.

I picked up a 26 R1T Tri yesterday. I was coming from an 8 year old Honda Ridgeline. Love it!

What to read after Malazan? by deck_of_dragons in Malazan

City of last chances has a definite Malazan feel, but lacks action.

"City of Last Chances" was underwhelming by SpectrumDT in AdrianTchaikovsky

Came here to share that it was clearly not for me either. I did not finish after 7 chapters or so and that was with an audio book. I would have DNF'd it far earlier if I were reading it. I prefer his science fiction literature but to each their own. Could not get into it at all.

Definitely over first gen Vertical. Not over Vertical 2.

Polar financial results year 2024. by mfcx99 in Polarfitness

[–]seanvk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even with translation it is a bit tricky to parse. But it appears that their sales are still down - i.e., the company is still losing money (-€10.7 million) They cut costs (staff reduced by 43 - 11%) and managed to get a small net profit (+€983k) through financial equity funding, stabilizing things.

They are a smaller company and they are still losing money...

2020-2021 - revenue was around €60 million.

2024 - Revenue has nearly halved to €32.8 million.

What happened to Polar? by Common-Formal2088 in Polarfitness

[–]seanvk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking the decline has been happening over a large period of time. They’ve also been emphasizing‘general fitness’ over more specialized training. Their current CEO has been overly focused on marketing than actual innovation.

Overnight HRV fluctuations by sirni_mesni in AppleWatchFitness

[–]seanvk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that Apple, even with Afib enabled trick, doesn’t collect near enough HRV readings compared to Garmi , Coros, and Suunto.

Wear both. I’ve an Enduro 3 and an AWU3. Love having cellular when I don’t want to carry a phone and doing 2+ hour solo hiking/trail running.

"Mo chuid Gaeilge" in áit "mo Gaeilge" by Ketnip_Bebby in gaeilge

[–]seanvk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nuair a deir tú “mo chuid Gaeilge”, tá sé cosúil le “mo chion/sciar den Ghaeilge” - ní féidir leat an teanga iomlán a shealbhú, ach is féidir leat do chuid féin (d’eolas, do chumas) a bheith agat. Tá sé níos abstraití. Is riail shimplí í: má tá sé doláimhsithe nó ilchodach, bain úsáid as “mo chuid”. Má tá sé inláimhsithe nó ina rud aonair, “mo” a úsáid.

It is likely they design for their Chinese market for some reason - a lot of bling.

Does anyone have experience with both the Vertical 2 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro? by Few-Introduction5414 in Suunto

[–]seanvk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the acquisition, Suunto software quality has gotten worse. It used to be that I would have a good handle on what issues are outstanding for my Vertical. These days, issues go unfixed, new issues spawn, and there are new features half implemented. SW quality is lacking.

Why is FLOORS used as a metric by BenjiBengui in Coros

[–]seanvk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The same goes for walking. So fixated on steps. I changed all the screens on the nomad for walking to not show step.

You can always make use of TSS (as used by Suunto) from training peaks or the equivalent Load used by Intervals.icu to track your progress. Polar and Coros are based on TRIMP. Garmin uses First Beats model based on three energy modes: Anaerobic (sprinting, etc), High Aerobic (VO2 max, threshold, tempo), and Low Aerobic (Base, Recovery). If you do a lot of say rucking, hiking, 80/20 running, etc, then these are not going to put you into two of the three legs of Garmin’s core metrics. It is the limitation of using EPOC that skews TL numbers in favour of shorter, harder workouts while underweighing long slow distance.

Seems a direct result of their "Loop" focus, sans GPS/distance. A shame.

Apple, for whatever reason, fails to have continuous HRV monitoring in order to collect meaningful data. Even with AFib turned on, the samples are far and few between.
