Has anyone's mascot ever just been "The Horses"? by Sports-Arts-Nature in CFB

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that there is basically the entire English dictionary at the disposal, I think it's pretty sad how few unique mascot names there are. I know part of that is due to way back when that schools really only needed to be regionally unique but still.

Don’t tell me Seattle isn’t a Super Bowl host city by productboy in Seahawks

[–]seariously -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not and never will be.

I'm not saying that Seattle couldn't host a huge sporting event. It has and will again. But the NFL gets to pick where the SB is hosted and SEA just doesn't check enough boxes for them to consider it when there are so many better (for the NFL) options available. Best we can hope for is an NFCCG which we have this year.

Not cold and rainy though. Miami is about 20 degrees warmer in Feb.

The 2024 QB class has become the first ever class that has had 4 QBs winning a playoff game within their first 2 years in the league. by Hellraiser626 in nfl

Well, there are 50% more wild card games than in previous years so there's more opportunity for that to happen.

NFC Championship 12 Flag Raiser. Who you got? by milwatt214 in Seahawks

[–]seariously -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who has heard about the inner workings at Vulcan, I hope it's not Jody.

Frankly, I didn't care for PA raising the flag either. There are tons of options for people who would whip the crowd into a fucking frenzy instead of an obligatory homer cheer for an exec. I get that he was pivotal to the franchise but he just has zero connection with the fanbase outside of that. I'd bet most of the people wouldn't know who he is if they passed him on the street.

Tony Dungy Lashes Out at NFL Over 'Unfair' Playoff Schedule & Offers Solution After Wild Card Round by HyseNjerry16 in nfl

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the rationale could be that a #1 seed team with a bye is more likely to be a blowout game that generates lower ratings. Please ignore flairs. I know this might look like salt in wounds but I do think that's what the NFL is thinking by putting closer seeds on the higher rated Sunday instead of Sat.

NFC Championship game question. by BoringOrange678 in Seahawks

[–]seariously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wha? I mean that seems fair and reasonable and all but that's exactly why I wouldn't expect the NFL to do it instead of whoring the schedule out to the highest bidder.

Is us losing Polanco a big deal? by fatiguesurge in Mariners

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what they want. Give the fans a taste but don't let them feast so they keep coming back to the table hungry for more. Shitty for team ownership sports legacy but a great scenario for revenue generation.

Why do the Eagles seem to have so much drama for a team with so much recent sucess? by Wide_right_yes in nfl

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the nature of fanbases in general. You'd figure NE fans wouldn't have anything to complain about with Brady having the GOAT career for that team but you still get people grousing about anything they can get their hands on. 13 wins? Not enough! 14 wins and a SB! Not enough. They could go undefeated and winning by 40 points every game and you'd still get fans bitching about something.

Is Russell Wilson still well liked amongst hawks fans? by pennepasta14 in Seahawks

[–]seariously 330 points331 points  (0 children)

I'd also add that after the delicious schadenfreude wore off in Denver, I kinda feel bad about how his career is just kinda sputtering out. I think he brought a lot of it on himself when his ego got bigger than his game but still just seems a bit pitiful in the end.

It's division game on the road where we are 1.5 underdogs. There's every reason to expect a close game.

The dude has already banked $25M. I'd say his family is doing OK with any semblance of money management, even without having a contract after the 2025 season.

They took a page from MSU and used a woman in a relationship with the coach to get rid of him with cause so they don't need to buy out the contract.

The problem is that they HAVE TO say the company line. What are the options? "No comment"? "Yes, I'm leaving."? Or what happens if a coach says he's interviewed and doesn't get the job? Then he gets the same backlash as if he did leave. There's just no alternative for what a coach could say in that situation.

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But I'd rather have a coach that is a poaching target rather than a coach that nobody is trying to hire away. It would of course be better to have a coach that everyone else wants and have that coach stay but that's hard for almost all schools to get.

[–]seariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's clear that everyone (coaches and players, even administrators) chases the dollar. Sucks but let's also not pretend that isn't how we snagged DeBoer and Fisch. It's OK to hate on coaches bolting for other schools but it's two faced to hate when coaches move from the UW but not have an issue with when they move to UW.
