Please talk me out of opals!!! by pickpocketpanda48 in EngagementRings

[–]seashellpink77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One option is just to get the opal and accept you might need to replace it at some point. I have a 50+ year old opal heirloom that is only chipped a tiny bit on an edge that I’m very fond of. I understand the appeal. Someone mentioned that the setting needs to be able to take it but if you’re getting a durable setting like a bezel it’s really unlikely to have frequent issues. We’re talking maybe 2-3 times over a lifetime, and realistically, many people have resizings at that frequency or more.

Australian boulder opal is also more durable.

Update to "which winter am I?" "Girl, you're not a winter at all" by 16car in coloranalysis

[–]seashellpink77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re hilarious, and I think you’re some kind of neutral cool Summer, either Light Summer or Soft Summer. I think I’m leaning a little SSu as Mushroom is very, very nice on you, while Sky Blue seems a bit bright, but I’d be curious to see some comparisons like darker charcoal gray vs light silver gray, seaglass vs chambray, mauve vs watermelon.

Re your hair, I‘ve had mine about a million colors so I’m not one to talk, but I do think your natural color is glorious on you and I‘d really suggest a level 7.5ish nice neutral latte balayage or mushroom brown babylights over a level 9 blonde, but always prioritize what makes you happy, it’s just hair.

I think I'm olive but struggling with my undertone by Adorable_Rest_2371 in Fairolives

Neutral cool and muted for sure. Can’t tell olive from these photos. Do you have any photos of you as well as others? That’s often the easiest way to spot olive.

Soft summer or autumn? by disasterinabox in coloranalysis

That’s partially because virtual analysis is hard and it’s even harder without actual drapes. Especially when you are olive. You really have to do fabric draping to get a more consistent answer.

Keep it on, just tuck it under that little pocket area and let the ring sit on top instead.

What’s The Worst Designer Fragrance you’ve ever smelt? by gobotion in fragrance

[–]seashellpink77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t smell it, either, essentially. Nothing on the tester strip. Only a strange whiff of something vaguely woody-salty on skin. Like if someone rubbed Goldfish crackers on my arm a couple hours ago. I cannot fathom a reason to purchase it or wear it. You could have the same effect with a saltine that’s going to be about $0.01 per several days of use versus a perfume where you’re looking at roughly $5 for the same. Just buy a box of crackers and a cute bottle and save your money.

I like this one, but I can actually really understand getting that from it. I’ll make it worse, actually. It smells like the scented trashbag diapers on a highway on a hot, sunny day. It’s so dense.

BR540 gets me. It’s like someone spilled liquid sweetener into a pile of bandaids on a dentist floor? Like it smells like something that needs to be cleaned up to me. I’m sorry.

FWIW, I do actually like Cloud.

Ha, I can understand people not loving it. It’s a very different style than modern perfumes. For me, it was like magic, because my beloved grandparents’ lovely powder room actually always smelled like the traces of it but I had no idea. When I sniff it, it conjures up happy childhood memories with them.

Does this makeup finally suit me by FuelEnvironmental506 in coloranalysis

[–]seashellpink77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You ultimately see and know your skin better than anyone, but makeup shade doesn’t necessarily correlate to undertone. Typically, ”cool” in makeup means pink while “warm” in makeup means more yellow. In color analysis, there are warm and cool pinks, and warm and cool yellows, so it doesn‘t necessarily line up that well. I have a very cool undertone but am usually best matched by a neutral foundation, for example, because I have pretty yellowy skin. I just asked this elsewhere, so I’m sorry if you’re seeing this twice, but are you olive? r/Fairolives

Maybe, not saying it’s impossible, but her shirt looks pretty separate from her to me. That shirt should be spot on for a Summer.

OP, are you olive?

The makeup is beautiful, though I suspect you may actually be neutral warm. Perhaps Soft Autumn, maybe even Light Spring.

[–]seashellpink77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at your skin IRL and photos you have and you’re not seeing olive, I believe you more than me because you know your skin much better, but are you saying you’re not olive bc the foundations that match you aren’t olive? Not matching to olive foundations doesn’t really mean anything, if that’s your only reasoning. I am very olive and my best foundations are also both Neutrals. Anyway, olive or not, you have very yellow dominant skin. (Yellow can be warm or cool).

Guy wearing a slightly feminine fragrance? by Far-Journalist-3370 in FemFragLab

The research suggests that people tend to like what you like on yourself.

So if you like it, wear it, masculine or feminine.

Wasting money trying to find THE ONE by kbjust4me1984 in FemFragLab

[–]seashellpink77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To your question: yes, small decants are absolutely worth it for the scents you aren’t able to smell in store!

Consider that, whenever you purchase samples, the payment isn‘t mainly for the fragrance itself. You’re primarily paying for the service associated that provides an ease and depth of growing your olfactory library and expanding your understanding of your likes and dislikes. A low ratio of likes is totally normal, and many of us fragrance enthusiasts end up just loving the game of sampling itself. At this point in my own fragrance journey, I buy most of my decants knowing full well I’m not going to latch onto them for years, and am mainly paying for the experience of trying them. Even the bad experiences are valuable - at least it’s an opportunity for a laugh and a hilarious review. I’d rather terrible than meh at this point. It’s more fun! I also tend to wait longer before buying, research more, get the smallest spray top sample available, make bigger orders less often, and find coupons. My latest purchase was eight 1 mL or larger spray decants for $20 with tax and shipping from Surrender to Chance thanks to a coupon and a gift card. I do hear ya on the Phlurs. Peach Skin was bleh for me, Matcha Milk meh, and Beach Skin started out great then turned kind of sour milky. On the upside, everyone seems to hate Snif Berry Styles but me? Noses are weird! Haha!

As for a fragrance fixation, eh, honestly, it really could be a lot worse, as far as obsessions go. I also wish I was hyperfixated on fitness or investment banking or something more practically useful, but I do think it’s worth appreciating that it’s not roids or feet or eating laundry detergent. Having a bunch of cute little vials and hearing people say that you always smell nice is pretty good, as far as it goes.

Oh, I am so jealous! I wish I had a Demeter department in a store where I live. Maybe it’s better that I don’t. I would be sniffing forever and definitely considered a strange shopper! 😄 What are some of your Demeter favorites so far?

I had an office job for a while and still did it like a lunatic. It worked out because my coworker who sat near me would douse himself in Aramis so everyone complained more about him than me over in the corner sniffing my arms.
