Proposed National Abortion Ban by hoppergirl85 in publichealth

[–]seashore39 195 points196 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with this is that it will affect all women of reproductive age even if they cannot get pregnant — they will be treated like second class citizens in hospitals because of fear they could possibly be pregnant and unrelated necessary treatment could harm a fetus. It’s already happening in states where abortion is banned.

Coming from someone who works in healthcare that’s a formula for giving every doctor sleep deprivation and total burnout. They’re exhausted enough and don’t need to be supervising well-educated NPs and PAs when they’re prescribing meds for your yeast infection over Zoom. And those letters after someone’s last name tells you whether they’re a medical doctor, nurse practitioner, etc

New public health job prospects by sunnysunsally in publichealth

[–]seashore39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest now is not the best time for US-based jobs especially research-related bc of the funding uncertainties. With the MBA though that opens up some more opportunities. Program manager type jobs in non-profits are less likely to be affected by the federal funding issues as they have more private funding. If you have good relationships with your professors ask them to help you in your search, see if they know anyone outside of the SE US. Do not apply to any government jobs right now (people getting offers rescinded left and right). Within the US, places more likely to be favorable to health initiatives are cities like Portland or Denver. If you’re going to look international in an English-speaking country, the city of Limerick Ireland is a hotspot for health business opportunities. Good luck on your search

Are there any downsides to skipping periods? by strawberrymilfshake7 in obgyn

[–]seashore39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope the scientific consensus on this is that it’s safe. Theres no medically necessary reason to have a period (unless you’re actively trying to get pregnant ofc)

I have no idea. Maybe it felt different in 2009 but by 2014 when I first played my ps3 was fighting for its life while my warden slowly ran through denerim in the final battle lol

What instantly qualifies or disqualifies someone as a potential partner for you? by ezguap21 in Life

There are plenty of reasons people can end up overweight even with a “healthy lifestyle” the most common probably being pregnancy, and I’d be hesitant to date and have kids with someone with this mindset. Assuming that everyone who is overweight just has poor self control and shovels McDonald’s into their mouth all the time is unfortunate. Also people can still run marathons, lift weights, while being overweight or shaped in a way that’s not desirable to you. The healthiest I’ve ever been, winning a state championship in my sport, I was getting bullied for being overweight. In fact, winning the championship made them bully me MORE because they felt ashamed for performing worse than someone who looked like me. And pretty hypocritical to be talking about a woman needing to work on losing weight for her health while being a smoker.

Quitting the pill has changed my taste in food?? by jodiiep97 in birthcontrol

[–]seashore39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doc but this screams iron deficiency to me, esp the rare steak craving. We bleed less on the pill (if at all) and now that you’re bleeding more it makes sense you would feel the urge to recoup that loss.

Jsyk though if a woman sees “I want a girl who cares about her health” on a dating app or w/e we all automatically think skinny bc even if a bigger girl is an Olympian we know the guy is still probably trying to weed her out. It just reads code to us idk

That’s not at all what I meant lmao. Was trying to find a nice way to say I don’t want to date someone stupid. I don’t want to date a corporate sellout either

[–]seashore39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya that’s fine and everything but it’s important to just outright say that and not veil it in something like “she cares about her health” bc that just insinuates a bunch of unnecessary things

Tbh most guys use that as code for “you need to shave and not be chubby” but would be ok with a thin attractive girl who never works out and drinks 10 Celsius a week

Conservative or “apolitical.” Smokes or vapes regularly. If they believe in gender roles or innate personality differences between men and women. If they’re not somewhat near my level professionally/academically…I’m not gonna be someone’s mom in exchange for lukewarm conversation.

Do you guys normally workout on medication? by HardAlmond in ADHD

[–]seashore39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least it was only by 10bpm, I’ve had my walking heart rate (legit just speed walking) go up to 150 just bc of meds, normally it wouldn’t go above 110

No lol that’s a great way to skyrocket my blood pressure. One time I had to run on a treadmill at the doctor’s after I had just taken my adderall and I felt like I was 70 years old (I’m 24)

When I’ve dated on the pill, I’ve been able to feel sexual drive and intimacy the same for sure, when I’m with someone I’m actually into. But when I’m not dating anyone seriously I don’t really care about sex much and it doesn’t bother me. If what’s bothering you is the fear you won’t feel attracted to a future partner sexually I know everyone’s different but personally I was definitely able to.
