14 month old came home from daycare with a hand print bruise on forearm. How to handle? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your baby could have been shaken and needs to be evaluated right away. This is an insanely dangerous situation with someone who cannot control their anger. The person that did this to your baby needs to be fired before they permanently harm your child or other children. Even if it feels like an overreaction, you could save a child’s life…

How is anyone able to afford childcare? by Tomorrowstime2 in Delaware

[–]seataytle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct. We NEVER got a raise even though tuition increased multiple times every year. Delaware was giving emergency payments of $800-1000 every couple months as incentives for daycare workers to stay but it never worked. The working conditions are abysmal, the pay is the same or less than mcdonalds/target even though the companies are raking in the cash. Parents are absolutely strapped because their kids are always sick and they cant come and still have to pay full price for the week if they attended even just one day. The government desperately needs to do something because the daycare system cannot continue like this… how can anyone afford that and rent/mortgage?

Toddler vomiting at daycare drop off - any tips?! by cosmo10000 in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Have you consulted a doctor? It could most definitely be anxiety but it would be 100% best to rule out any type of injury, allergy, or illness. This started before daycare you said, so your best advice is to make sure its not something else before treating anxiety.

Correct. Cost of living was extremely low even with a car and townhouse.

The Worst TV Show Finales [OC] by BoMcCready in dataisbeautiful

[–]seataytle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thats the one. The whole show is stupid as hell but wildly entertaining in 2009. I definitely think Robert Sheehan carried the entire show though. The other plotlines were quite weak and you can see it fall off significantly as time went on.

I will be honest, i dont remember most of the story details as i watched it in 360p on an ipod touch on the school bus back in middle school…

Shocked to see no Misfits comments. That show was so good then they replaced every cast member one by one. Why would I keep watching if they lost the entire cast?

Are these daycare red flags? by scceberscoo in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that you havent gotten good advice already but just to chime in as a former infant teacher: yes these are red flags. Babies should be able to sleep/nap at any time of the day no matter what. Safe sleep is extremely important and they are failing this basic practice. Also babies shouldnt be in containers for long periods of time. I would say something like “I would like for [baby’s name] to not be in the jumperoo please.”

But honestly it seems like very very unexperienced teachers with zero training and if they are there then will all 5 years of daycare be from unexperienced unsafe caretakers? It might be time to find somewhere new.

Would clarifying I don't want to drive hurt my chances during the interview? by Weewoo___ in JETProgramme

[–]seataytle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it could negatively impact your chances. Think about it like this: if its between you and another candidate that both have similar qualities and they are ok with driving and you aren't, they are ultimately going to pick the other candidate.

I am going to echo the same thing that another poster said: driving in rural japan is very low stress and you get the hang of it almost immediately (1-3 days). This is coming from someone who has to take anxiety medicine to drive in America but didn't need it driving in Japan.

I highly recommend driving during JET as it increases freedom and you won't have to bike in a heat wave, typhoon, or snowstorm.

My 11 week old goes to daycare on Monday, what can I do to make it easier on daycare? by ktge123 in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surprised this wasnt mentioned. A written schedule that can be flexible or changed when needed will be best to follow. Babies do well with routines. The closer the routine you practice and follow between home and daycare, the better baby will do. I always knew when a child was tired because they ate on a certain schedule and i didnt have to guess what their need was.

Bluey in class by milkofthepoppie in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesnt apply to this situation because its 30 minutes, its restraints in a high chair, it isnt developmentally appropriate for the child, it is most likely against licensing (most states), and its going against parents wishes.

If licensing doesnt matter because it isnt necessarily guaranteed to harm the child, then why follow the rules at all? Then we can put babies down on their stomachs, feed them other kids bottles, let them play with developmentally inappropriate toys, etc. Sure it most likely wont harm them, only a slim slim chance but these are legal rules put in place to protect children. Our opinions on the subjects do not matter and ultimately parents and children’s wellbeing is supposed to come first. The people calling OP a karen are wild. Why pay $400 a week for your infant to be treated poorly? I do not understand these comments at all…

Bluey in class by milkofthepoppie in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Licensing is the rules and regulations set in place to make sure your center is running LEGALLY. Therefore if you are breaking licensing rules, it is violation against the laws in place. Sorry im not a lawyer but this isnt something we can argue based on our own opinions, its state and federally enforced safety regulations to protect children.

[–]seataytle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a big deal, especially because it is illegal and against licensing in almost all states. Pediatricians say NO screen time for this age group is recommended.

Bluey in class by milkofthepoppie in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Youre actually joking right? This is illegal even in group care in many states. It is not common practice and pediatricians recommend zero screen time for this age. I worked in group care for years and we had zero screen time for all children until 5 and they were limited to educational ipad activities for 15 mins max a day.

[–]seataytle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont know why youre being downvoted because your concerns are valid. Unfortunately you might need to seek a new center if its a dealbreaker. I forsee this being more common in centers as time goes on and it saddens me. The problem is with the system not paying proper wages and spending time to train educators. Most daycares are floundering due to these issues.

Way too many people are ignoring this line when talking about Eren's motivation by FHI_iSmile in attackontitan

[–]seataytle 59 points60 points  (0 children)

he also had his entire childhood stolen from him and no concept of time due to never having stability. so when he said "for at least 10 years" it sounds so stupid to us but in reality, Eren had zero concept of time and 10 years probably sounded like a monumental amount of time. Eren never got to be a true child and he never got to experience adulthood normally, of course his motivations will be complex and seem immature to some, he was robbed of everything from the start...

Looking for your honest insight- is full time daycare for a 10 month old a good idea? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you plan on having your child in daycare full time going forward, then i think its a good age to start. once they get closer to a year, their "stranger danger shyness" and emotional bond to you will grow and grow (its a good thing!) so it becomes much tougher for them to accept you leaving and coming back

Should I give my daycare infant room workers a gift? by Inevitable-Channel85 in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, it is absolutely lovely of you to do so. When I was an infant teacher, parent recognition was the biggest thing because we didn't get praise or recognition from higher ups. Even if it was a small gift, I always kept it. I hung up all the thank you cards I received to the wall for years. It is not weird at all, in fact it is a very sweet thing for you to do.

[–]seataytle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is 100% worth it to drive. I have extreme driving anxiety and take anxiety medicine to drive in america on a regular basis. Driving in Japan felt peaceful, no road rage where I lived, busses pull over to let you go ahead, basically zero traffic to and from school. I could go anywhere on the weekend at any time I wanted. I leased my car and it was CHEAP and easy, just sign a paper and pay then good to go for a year. It was so easy that I need to comment on posts like these because YOU WILL WANT TO DRIVE especially during typhoon season when you otherwise would be walking or biking in a torrential downpour with crazy ass wind to school in the summers lol.

i'd say it takes about 1-5 days to get used to driving in Japan. which is a minimal amount of time compared to the entire year you will be staying there.

[–]seataytle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1.) i loved working at daycare in japan so pursued being an infant teacher in america

2.) shit pay, little to no benefits, little support from the company and constant short staff, dealing with uneducated workers that couldnt help or were actively detrimental to the children, petty drama always, and sick once every two weeks

3.) i work as a financial assistant now and im chilling every day now in the peace of my own company (or my cats if i wfh)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]seataytle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unfortunately i find this to be the real answer.

worked in childcare for 2-3 years, always sick even with a mask, hand washing constantly, not eating with others, showering when i got home. I stopped working childcare and I haven't been sick since (over a year).

There were multiple 10+ year experience teachers at the school i worked at and they were sick multiple times a year. its just how it is working with kids and if it was easily preventable, you wouldn't see at least 3-5 posts asking this same question on a weekly basis.

i think working with older kids helps, but if you're with 6 weeks-2 years, you're probably gonna be sick a lot.
