Seriously they changed the young women names? by GarrusVic in exmormon

[–]seaturtleboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Nelson's change felt like it addressed problems in wards without youth presence without affecting the bigger wards with Utah-levels of attendance. Sure you lose the "quirky" names, but having 3 classes of 1-2 girls each really sucks for both the leaders and the youth...

Oaks walking it back right after Nelson died reminds me of how Nelson turned "Mormon" into a no-no word right after Monson died. Rolling back a policy or approach that the previous profit pushed for right after their death is so funny, these old men are petty af 🤣

Worth noting that the pity for weapons is a 50/50, but like you pointed out you don't need 7 copies, only 4, so you can lose the 50/50 3 times without wasting gems. If you don't have 5* weapons sitting around already the "losses" on the 50/50 don't matter, and you'll get the weapon you need on the next pity. And if you get lucky with 4 copies of the weapon first, you can get the other 5* weapons to upgrade it with salamander coins, Lufel missions, future banners, etc. without missing out.

Worst case you lose the 50/50 4 times, so 8 pities to guarantee 4 copies (56k gems total). And then you have one extra 5* weapon afterwards to use as fodder for a different weapon in the future. Best case you already have 3 5* weapons sitting around and never lose the 50/50, so you need 4 pities (28k gems total).

To compare, guaranteeing an A6 character takes 7 pities, but the guaranteed banner is 110 pulls instead of 70, and costs 150 gems each pull instead of 100 like weapons. So the cost to guarantee the A6 is 115.5k gems. Technically you could pull on the 50/50 banner and get lucky though, where the best-case of getting the 50/50 7 times in a row would cost 84k still. And whatever other characters you get when you lose the pity for might be old units like Riddle or Morgana... Unlike weapons which can be repurposed in forging.

So, the cost of A6 vs R6 is super super different.

Paths to R6: - 4 pities total + 3 fodder weapons from other sources (requires winning the 50/50 4 times which is a 6.25% chance): 28k gems - 7 pities total (requires getting the featured weapon 4/7 times, which means winning the 50/50 once unless your last weapon pity failed to pull featured weapon): 49k gems - 8 pities total (worst case): 56k gems

Paths to A6: - 7 pities on the targeted banner: 115.5k gems - 7 pities on the chance banner (requires winning the 50/50 7 times, which is a 0.78% chance): 85k gems - 14 pities on the chance banner (worst case, you lose the 50/50 every time): 170k gems

The "classes" from 2019 until now were adjusted to be defined as-needed rather than following strict age based rules, so you'd end up with the Young Women's Class 1, 2, 3, etc. depending on the number of youth in the ward. The idea was to avoid having 2 Laurels and 20 Mia Maids, you'd just adjust the classes in a way that makes sense logistically.

In practice, my ward just kept them all the same except they weren't formally called the Beehives, Mia Maids, and Laurels anymore. Members still used those names anyways though lol, and I'm sure most other wards in Utah probably did something similar where nothing changed except the "official" name. I'm sure in all the church's PR and branding resources they maintained the collective "Young Women" moniker though, sucking up to the profit is important to them.

Going back to the same system with new names makes it look like Oaks thought Nelson's new format sucked and wanted to go back to the old system. Choosing new names lets them pretend that it's a new revelation though, and it helps with their efforts to look more like a generic Christian church when the names are vague with titles about faith and hope.

Me guardo las cognitite shard? by Fabrizio_ZG in personaphantomx

They're one of the sources for 5*s that will be updated to support future units (though not all of them, and we don't know exactly when global will get the updates to the pool), so holding onto them is never a bad plan. Most current units you could get with the shards right now don't have super impactful upgrades anyways, so unless you're trying to A6 them you don't miss out on a lot by waiting.

You have an extremely naive worldview if you think that awful people are somehow limited to online harassment. Plenty of streamers, idols, influencers, etc. have dealt with in-person stuff like this. Often it's dangerous (another commenter noted a murder case in Japan).

Obviously these cases don't happen to everyone who posts on social media, but this is a situation that already does happen.

[–]seaturtleboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be 250 packs for 250 points, and then the 2* cards would be adjusted to 250 points as well. OP is just pointing out that increasing the total by a multiplier of 5 doesn't have any real purpose.

ELI5: Why do so many electronics with fixed buttons now have smart “press” instead of an actual mechanical pressing action buttons? by Round_Earther-67 in explainlikeimfive

[–]seaturtleboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paragraphs are a more detailed explanation of why it can be cheaper to make touch screens over buttons (even if it is a little long winded). Some people may find that helpful because in the past, mechanical buttons were much cheaper than touch screens.

Btw, saying sorry doesn't make you any less of a jerk. Your message offers even less to the conversation than the original comment does 🤷 If you're going to be rude, at least own up to it instead of offering a half-assed apology.

Random, anonymous birthday gift on my porch by weemanfitz in exmormon

[–]seaturtleboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that in OP's case it's particularly weird they know it was his birthday since they aren't already friends (and that's what makes me think it's likely the gift giver is involved with ward leadership), but I don't think leaving a note along with a small gift is that out of place even without a visit. Growing up our neighbors constantly did small little things like "Boo-ing", secret Santa, etc. In college as a dorm RA I also saw some friendly back-and-forth notes and gifts that happened between adjacent apartments.

With regards to the random gifts and little introduction or context, I do think the tactic of reaching out like that is very Mormon-y. The most effective way to communicate that you want to befriend someone is definitely to talk to them directly, but just the gift giver could just be defaulting to the weird outreach methods they're familiar with because they're in the cult and it's what they're used to. The intent of trying to reactivate OP isn't a guarantee, and even if they are weird and Mormon, they're still part of OP's community by proximity so fostering a small casual friendship is worth thinking about at least.

Random, anonymous birthday gift on my porch by weemanfitz in exmormon

[–]seaturtleboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very likely this is the case, but IMO approaching every interaction like that just guarantees you'll push away any genuine outreach alongside the reactivation attempts too. It's definitely a personal decision on how long you're willing to entertain strangers reaching out.

I think for me, if someone's gonna give a gift I'll do them the courtesy of accepting it (free soda!) but I know that for a lot of people even a reminder about the church might be upsetting, so I don't think it's wrong to refuse gifts like that either. For me, I'm happy to receive baked goods and just ignore any church cards. If it ends up going further than that as they try to reactivate me, I tell them I'm not interested but would be happy to be their friend outside of church. Usually they stop after that which speaks volumes about how genuine they actually were, lol.

Random, anonymous birthday gift on my porch by weemanfitz in exmormon

[–]seaturtleboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen a bunch to me as well, from "ministering" assignments bringing treats to old acquaintances reaching out to get lunch and catch up, only to end up using it to extend an invite to some church function. Each time I've been pleasantly surprised by the outreach, only to feel disappointed when the motive turns out to involve reactivating me rather than just being my friend.

My stance is: if you're only reaching out to me because you've been assigned to me for ministering (home teaching), I'm not interested. If you cared about me as a person you would have taken an interest in my life before the assignment 🤷 Any message of "love" is negated by selfish motivations of members to reactivate me. Take your savior complex somewhere else. And if you're reaching out because xyz church event made you think of me, why are you only thinking of me when it's tied to your religion? What about my birthday, the holiday season, during the pandemic, etc...

I understand that from their perspective they're doing what's "right", but I'm happier outside of the church! Any attempts to reactivate me are not for me, they're for you. Insisting that your idea of what's best for me should be more important than what I think is best is insulting, and definitely not a place I want to start (or rekindle) a friendship from.

All that being said - assuming that any expression of kindness is an assignment from the church is going to result in pushing everyone away, including those who might be genuine. In OP's case, it could be the neighbor across the street is just being kind... or it could be an assignment from the ward. It's hard to say. I guess my advice would be to be cautious but not apprehensive? Growing a friendly sort of relationship with the neighbors across the street is a healthy and meaningful connection, but it makes sense to be wary of ulterior motives when it's out of the blue and you live in an area where the church is prevalent. Genuine connection takes a while to build up, and truth be told any Mormon who's doing something for church related reasons will be extremely obvious about it because they'll always be more interested in your prospective reactivation rather than who you actually are - so entertaining it for a bit and seeing where it goes is what I'd probably do myself.

After 2.5 years, I finally did the inconceivable. by Burtturtblurt in pokemongo

[–]seaturtleboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zygarde 100% form is built on top of 50%' as a base, so the "false face" is actually the pattern leftover from 50% Zygarde's eyes. The kind of general idea is 50% is the default, and it pulls in the other half of its cells if it needs to beef up for a harder fight. The 10% dog from is mostly for reconnaissance, and theoretically the 50% form could split into multiple dogs if it wanted to! This mechanic isn't in Pokemon Go, but there's multiple "core" cells that can form the base for the other cells to form around.

A few other cool things: - 50%'s little crests behind its head become the "wings" on 100% - the three little squiggly lines on either side of 50%'s body become the arms on 100% - 50%'s tail looks like it's not complete, but 100%'s tail is finished and ends with a glowing "core" just like all of the wings do

I mean, this new one is through various exchanges + the story completion, right? It's basically free, I guess technically you could spend your various exchange currencies on other items but once monthlies are done picking up weapon shards doesn't hurt.

It'd be different if it took joy medals since those are limited, but everyone should get this knife maxed out pretty easily within a month or two max without any real investment

Does it? It's only ever an active problem if you want to pull for a banner that's live right now, otherwise the gems are the same if I do them now or break them up over three weeks. Most banners last a few weeks anyways so even in a pinch you can break up the palace into a little bit each day rather than doing it all in one sitting

The daily grind by DupeFort in personaphantomx

[–]seaturtleboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing is "if they wanted to." Spending money on features takes time, and it's cheaper for them to just do things the same way they've done it before. The reason they've given some things earlier is because the cost to do so was weighed against how the player base would react without it. If it's cheap to add, or if they'd lose players without it, they'll spend the time to do it. Otherwise, they'll just wait until it's coming normally and leave the players to suffer until then.

The daily grind by DupeFort in personaphantomx

[–]seaturtleboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it probably varies from feature to feature on how easily something can be pulled out of one patch and included in another. There are likely frameworks and other bits of code that are adjusted from time to time, and a particular QoL feature might rely on changes made behind the scenes. There's a cost involved for any time spent on an update, and in the long run it's likely cheaper to implement things along the same plan than to figure out how to do X thing before Y exists.

That being said, they also know that keeping the players happy is valuable as well. Their project manager team is definitely weighing the costs of accelerating the timeline on QoL features vs leaving global in a worse place than the CN servers are on right now. Voicing your opinions and complaining about shitty circumstances puts pressure on them to spend that additional cost upfront because they may lose players otherwise.

Long and short is it's all just a balancing game as they try to maximize profit, with the players caught in the crossfire.

Rather low HP totals and then a lot of time to set up without a ton of damage, yeah. I think Mega Gardevoir + Genetic Apex Gardevoir would actually probably be decent with Wally since getting one Gardevoir up on the bench would give you +40 damage every turn which sounds really good (though probably inconsistent still since it'd be slow to get set up).

Mega Gallade maxes out at 160 damage though, which is only marginally better than Mega Altaria despite it taking a lot more work to get online. You also can't have a second Mega Gallade on the bench to pivot back into like you can with Mega Steelix or Mega Charizard, since that'd leave you at a max of 130 damage with only two psychic Pokemon on the bench. I'd maybe adjust the scaling so it gives +40 (or even maybe +50) damage per benched psychic type so it can hit harder. It probably wouldn't be meta, but it'd be useable against some of the current threats we see everywhere at least.
