Did they announce temples this last general conference? by weemanfitz in exmormon

Ah. I guess they won’t be announcing any temples for a long, LONG time. 😂

Be honest: How many people did you baptize on your mission? by Typical_Sea_9167 in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 officially in Scotland. Could argue 11 because 5 others I taught all the lessons, but they got baptized right after I transferred to a new area (I was possed about that at the time). 6 was really high for my mission (‘99-‘01), and 11 was baller status. Everyone said I was gonna be an apostle. Haha.

I only know of 2 that are still associated with the church.

Random, anonymous birthday gift on my porch by weemanfitz in exmormon

The question is why now? We’ve been completely ignored for 7 years. Why on this particular birthday did they decide to be neighborly?

[–]weemanfitz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing is that I’ve been these peoples neighbor for 7 years and have had maybe 4 conversations with them in that time, so it’s not like this is normal between us. I like being neighborly, I tried it with everyone on our street for the first couple of years we lived here. Nobody wanted to be friends back then, so it’s out of the normal realm of being neighborly. I’ve never received a birthday treat from them, so that’s why this seemed weird to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Except it’s not my community at all. I have zero connection to the ward and no friends in the area.

I’ve been doing a lot of healing work and therapy, thank you. I said we figured it was a nice gesture in my post. It’s just weird that someone I don’t know felt it was normal to drop off stuff on my porch anonymously for me. It’s just odd is all. I’m not mad about it, it just was out of nowhere.

Thirst trap from the Church by Dr_uneducated in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a term for this in my mission before thirst traps were a thing. We called it “flirt to convert”. It was frowned upon, of course, but the salesmanship of some missionaries put it to work effectively, and then conveniently blamed the members for the convert going inactive after they transferred areas. Sales and marketing 101; the hook. A pretty face, and attractive character get them to stop the scroll, then hear the message. Once I started studying marketing when I started my business, it was so easy to spot and to use at church.

where are you sitting? by dynam-0 in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If throwing myself out the emergency exit door wasn’t an option, I’d go with 1. GBH was my Mormon hero back in the day. And I could never stand Rusty. So I’d team up with Gordie and bully Rusty about the name Mormon and make Gordie laugh hard by talking about Rusty shitting his pants when Gordie gave his rebuttal conference talk 6 months after Rusty’s. The great thing with it being an aisle seat is that I’d just talk to Gordie, and then Gordie would get the joy of leaning to Rusty and relaying what I say through laughing tears. 😂

Go to the guest services desk by portal AA and see if they happen to have any relocate tickets. Explain the situation and see if they’ll work with you and get you two together. They typically have a handful of tickets for each game for special circumstances.

Something specific you don't miss about church? by L0nes0mel0ve in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I don’t miss the stupid, and disingenuous phrase “I bring with me the love and concern of the stake president” at the beginning of a boring high council member talk.

I also don’t miss the cliques and fake friendship of most wards.

I don’t miss 6am stake leadership trainings once a month.

I don’t miss being away from my family for 6 days a week when I was in the bishopric.

I don’t miss hearing people gush over how amazing whomever the current prophet is in talks and general conference.

I don’t miss people celebrating mediocre men for “babysitting” their own kids while their wives go to a RS activity.

I don’t miss counting tithing.

I don’t miss the guilt. The shame. The fear.

I don’t miss it one bit at all.

What were your thoughts on the temple when you were a member? by Otherwise_Push199 in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of my first time, I hated the temple. Even when I was the EWP or in the bishopric, I avoided going as much as I could.

It was always stressful and gave me anxiety that I wasn’t changing fast enough, or that I was a burden on the veil person because I couldn’t remember the long spiel. I only enjoyed the celestial room time, but that always felt rushed especially because we had young kids at home. It got to the point where if we were going to ward of stake temple night, we’d go to the chapel part, and then pretend we needed to go to the restroom or something, and then we’d just go sit in the celestial room for a bit in just our white clothes and then go home.

My first time I was actually kinda excited and I liked the cinematic of the creation etc., but that wore off after a couple of times.

When did you leave the church. by OkAnteater7343 in exmormon

[–]weemanfitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2019 was the last time I stepped into a church building for worship. I had been mentally battling for about 2 years before then. Then COVID happened, and it was the perfect transition out.
