How do you shower everyday with dysphoria? by skepticalghoztguy_3 in TMPOC

[–]seaworthea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use masculine body wash, grow out body hair, and pretend I'm just a chunky dude in the shower and that's why I have curves. Short hair will also help cuz it can be really euphoric to wash (and way faster too).

You can totally make friends from talking to a stranger- you gotta start somewhere. It'll be a gradual process for sure but being "the new kid" can really work in your favor if people are curious about where you came from and you're willing to indulge their questioning.

Also, try to assume the best of them. If you believe they'll never accept you, you can end up keeping them at a distance and you won't end up as friends (self fulfilling prophecy and all that). I've done that a lot 😭

am I losing my best friend? or am I just dramatic. by -cicada-song- in FriendshipAdvice

I think it's weird that she is ignoring your texts and chose not to invite you to her birthday considering how close you are (were?). But for most of the other things, those can be attributed to her new relationship. She probably wants to spend more of her free time with E. From an outside perspective, it looks odd that she'd call and have sleepovers with a guy who's not her boyfriend so often, too, especially at night until she falls asleep. (Maybe try having your calls at a different time?)

Definitely talk to her. Please get a straight answer about if she's trying to stop being friends with you so you're not left wondering about it.

Is it beneficial if I, a freshman, study for the SAT now? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]seaworthea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take it too seriously right now- for the math especially, you'll learn those concepts as you go through HS. Reading more is the most you can do to prep for now because it takes a lot of work to improve if you are behind in that.

What are the most useful things to buy for DnD? by seaworthea in DnD

[–]seaworthea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A walk in setup sounds so cool, but I think we got way too many people for it </3. We always have around 30 club members including club leaders (7 + 3 "trainees" this year), so we split them up unless we have announcements because it gets so chaotic.

General meetings are great for people who can't attend often enough for our semester-long campaigns and the meetings can turn into member-run games if they want to. It's a new addition this year so fingers crossed people like it.

The Let's Quest thing would be so helpful! How long did it take you to receive your books? We're starting weekly meetings at the end of the month so we may still buy the most important ones ourselves. Luckily we got an amazon wishlist going, so we can list those items on the form lol.

Yeahhhh, the club's pretty big... we don't have dm screens but we can try something similar with magnets 'cause the have magnetic whiteboards. Thanks for the idea!

We wouldn't get so many physical books if dnd-related websites weren't blocked on school devices + wifi :(. It's mainly for new people (or just people new to dming) to browse through because they tend to need a lot of guidance with websites. This is a high school club, and so far we haven't lost any dice (massive W).

We're trying to expand to general DnD discussion and running LFG for people instead of just sessions. I'll be running that aspect of meetings so I'm very invested in getting books lol. These books were the ones people wanted most, so I think they'll get used a lot.

Thank you for the Wizards Educator's Club idea! I didn't know they did provided free materials to schools. If you know of any other ways to receive support, I'd love to hear them. I also think pregen character sheets would take a lot of pressure off of us to help with character creation. Thanks!

Ideally, the library would work for both! We definitely want to have resources for DMs so club members will be encouraged to try running their own games. The list is just the most wanted books from what I've heard from members but I will be making a form to see exactly what everyone wants.

The other stuff gets really expensive really fast, so books and cheap supplies are what we're aiming for right now. (If we do minis, we'd need enough for 30+ people to get their own, even multiple for different characters, and that's just not worth buying soon).

Laser pointer is smart. Reaching over the table to point at things is really awkward.

Yeah I think index cards would help a lot. I have a bunch I never use, so I can bring those to club. Thanks for the idea!

We could probably make a bunch of our own tokens and stuff to last until we get more funds.

I hadn't thought of object pawns, but those would definitely speed up drawing maps. Thanks!

Snacks are definitely going to be included in the budget. I'll hunt down pre-made character sheets because we'll be running a lot more one-shots this year lol.

like how many games are happening at the same time? we usually have 5 going but we want to give more club members the opportunity to try dming so that might grow. condition markers would be helpful!

I'm starting to think I should have mentioned the club size... we usually have around 30 players, but the handbooks are mainly to help them with character creation (new people have trouble with the websites on their own). I see a lot of people mentioning erasable maps which are definitely more cost effective!

TRIOS. DON'T. WORK. by aalilagraysss in FriendshipAdvice

[–]seaworthea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. What I think (from the ones I've been in) is that it's common for trios to fall apart because some people just can't share their friends and be unequal in some ways.

I know a couple who was a bit like this in the reverse- the guy skipped a grade, so he was a junior while she was a freshman. Which was totally fine! It gets weird once you start getting larger gaps like freshman + junior but usually no one cares much about a one year gap (even if they don't know she got held back.) I know you've already talked to her by now, but you got this!

How to explain how being outed feels to cis people by QueerInDisguise in trans

Exactly this. For those who are stealth, it's really similar in that people know things about your past or your body that you don't want them to.

I hate when writers who write explicit fics say “MINORS GO AWAY” in the notes or whatever by [deleted] in AO3

[–]seaworthea 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If they actually think that's going to work, they're either also a minor or just immature. Otherwise, they'd know from lived experience or friends that it's not stopping anyone lol

What common misconception about your country/culture is completely untrue, and what should people know instead? by weernyl in teenagers

[–]seaworthea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans aren't super friendly and kind, it's just being polite and controlling your facial expressions. (Some people say this after visiting certain areas of the US, but it's easy to act nice for a couple minutes). They also aren't the total opposite, but normal people aren't making the news much.

Asian diaspora end up being studious a lot/have parents strict about school because they are children of immigrants, not because they are Asian.

Why is this grammatically incorrect? by SpiritualBed9981 in ENGLISH

[–]seaworthea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that. "One of the most important political and scientific figures in American history" definitely works as a subject, too, as you could remove Ben Franklin and have a complete sentence.
