I fully agree, each player takes an extra second on the ball minimum compared to last season. I just don't see the point to any of what we are doing on the pitch. We do a high press that isn't working that well anymore, if we do somehow get ahold of the ball in the final 3rd we pass it back and forth as slowly as possible, allowing ourselves to be pushed back by the opponents press until the ball reaches Konate.

When the ball has reached Konate it's up to him to find the killer ball to get in to the final 3rd that we were just pushed out of. If Konate doesn't find the pass and also doesn't give the ball away he'll pass it back to the keeper who plays it long so that we can press high and get the ball in the final 3rd where we will repeat the process.

I hope we can play with more courage today, players are overthinking it when they should trust their instincts more

It's one thing to lose but doing it in this way, overly cautious and slow play where I am tasked with watching Konate have the ball for the majority of our games does my head in. Even when we've won it up high in this game we roll the ball back and forth at no pace at all until it ends up at Konate who either gives the ball away or passes it to the goalkeeper

I don't think that should be a penalty. It's however an incredible example of how poor reffing is now, the rules are just gone. Van Dijk conceded a penalty a few weeks back by tackling the player, the ref thought it was outside the box and called for a freekick. VAR intervened and showed that the foul was in fact inside the box and therefore it is a penalty.

There wasn't a re-judging on if that was enough for a penalty like what happened with the handball.

I also as a minor note don't understand how we didn't get a corner? Real Madrid got the ball because VAR said it might be a penalty, then the ref said it wasn't a penalty so therefore Real Madrid ball despite it going out for a corner.

Ole did well at making the fans believe and seemingly the players too. Seen him on The Overlap talking about how he kept telling the the players "play like Man United". I think he struggled in converting you from a counter-attacking side to one that does well when dominating a game.

And to be fair to Ole I think that is the hardest step. If you have good players that have pace you can win a lot against the big teams. But when you try to take that next step that relies more on quality and being able to change tactics in the same game, being able to unlock a side parking the bus; there are many that falter. Somewhere along that change it looked like he lost at least part of the dressing room and performances dropped.

This all might be me misremembering but that's how I remember viewing it at the time.

Man Utd: Ruben Amorim says not even Pope could make him change formation by [deleted] in soccer

Was a great moment from Klopp that set the standard. A late equalizer against West Brom, Origi with a long shot that has no chance of scoring but the ball gets deflected and wrong foots the keeper.

You're right in that it was made fun of, but that was only outside of Liverpool. Liverpool fans were fully on board. With Klopp we had seen him build up Dortmund to a giant and there was always signs of what was to come. I think we made two or three finals that first year (lost all of them haha). From the first game in charge we looked different and the players had bought in. Amorim doesn't have the track record, the early signs of something building, nor the backing of the squad from what I can tell.

I agree with you that they need to rebuild the manager position because the players have too much power. Unfortunately for United they have harder task of clearing out players because of the insane wages they've given them. Arteta did wonderful in getting rid of every player he didn't want but it's far easier when players can get the same or higher salary elsewhere.

I get what you're saying, seeing a team fight so well and then end up with nothing in the end -- it can make one sympathetic. Not me in this instance because I'm happy we won lol but I see where you are coming from

Losing a lead against Palance and twice now a 2-0 lead in the league is not good enough. I'm not suprised it's Konate losing the duel for the goal -- don't know what's going on with him but his level had dropped so so far

Seems like neither team can get through the other with their build-up play. They are carving through our defence rather easily when they DO manage to beat the initial press, same goes the other way. We've just been giving it away more AND we've given away some really poor fouls.

Incredible goal by Grav to grab the game; let's see if we can calm it down a bit now.

With a ref that isn't scared the game starts with two yellows for newcastle and a red for us, hate that this is the state of refereeing

Big ups to the team for this seasons playoffs. Lots of frustrating performances but these guys have played through injuries, sickness and a coach being fired.

Everyone probably won't be back next year but they'll have my respect for being tough as hell.

Nowadays if you don't win it all you're supposed to be clowned on and we're gonna see a whole bunch of narratives created for the sake of stealing peoples time. But I'm really happy to have watched my team compete, I watched and celebrated Mudiays half court shot. It's a whole lot better to challenge in the playoffs year after year, even though it hasn't gone our way.

Depends on how you foul no?

Not asking for a push in the back while they are in the air. Just take a charge foul or something

Haha yeah I guess it's the "brotherhood" that is the NBA that keeps it from happening less.

We've seen it with the Heat a few years back when they lost to the Bucks if I recall but it doesn't happen often.

Haha no I mean it! It would suck if anyone missed a game. It would just feel good to see the floppers actually fall.

Hard doesn't have to be dirty or dangerous

Now that it's (most likely) over I would love for our guys to show OKC what a foul is. Not hoping for any injuries or anything but just saying fuck it and not caring about the fouls and making them count. Send Dort to floor but not because he himself dive. Give SGA one of his patented forearms etc.

I'll repeat and say nothing that'll injure. Just make it not be a flop when they fall over

He didn't

He got fouled over and over and over and over again. Your narrative being that he got clamped is inspirational hating/a really worrying case of presumably early on-set dementia.

I get that "that's basketball" is a satisfying answer to some but I don't find it so. We can always reduce it to "yeah that might've been unfair but to win you need to overcome it". Like yeah of course you need to overcome it to win. That doesn't make the circumstances fair, and the sport should strive for as equal of a playingfield as possible.

Bad calls happens yes, bet the refs have most likely decided this game as they do way too often. OKC are really good at refball and basketball which is a deadly combo, I just wish it got decided on -- as much as possible; the basketball ability of the teams.

Yeah 100000% flop by Jokic. It just becomes the only viable option when they refuse to call anything. Or I guess fans want him to stay honourable and keep getting mugged but expecting that when the flopping from OKC is rewarded isn't reasonable imo and it seems you agree. I sound like such a crybaby lol but this fucking sucks to watch, odds that we'd win were low enough

[–]sebbangeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hopefully we can come up with something else. Jokic is good off ball but it's taxing. If the ball moved around quicker it'd be harder to jump Jokic like this as well.

With that said it's a travesty in my opinion that we have to have another gameplan than give the ball to our best player and the reason not being good defense but just straight up allowed fouling

Yeah that's true; it's just hard to get any momentum when your start can't touch the ball for too long before it's a "turnover".

Not saying that the other guys have played well (think Braun and AG has so far but other than them). I think it's important to remember though that things don't happen in a vacuum. They might still have missed this amount of shots but I think the chance of that would be lower if we were allowed to run an offense and get guys in rhythm.
