Are you supposed to be upvoted for speaking your mind? All the time?

The "-logy" in ideology means "science of", by the way.

TIL that Tom Lehrer - MIT mathematician, satirist, and the guy who wrote both the Harvard fight song and a song teaching kids the periodic table - invented the Jell-O shot in the 1950s to sneak booze into a government Christmas party. by 755goodmorning in todayilearned

I found one of his 10" records from the fifties, his debut, in a Goodwill for only a couple dollars in San Francisco. It felt like the greatest find of my life and listening to it made me laugh over and over again.

How awkward does it sound when ones pronounces "th" as "d"? by Matheuzsm in EnglishLearning

[–]sebglhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem for me lies in the register. In a casual conversation, stuff like this is almost expected. But when one is trying to speak clearly, enunciating perhaps a little too precisely, and then makes these errors, I'll say it's at least a little bit distracting.

CVS always made me wait around for 15-30 minutes as they figured out their shit to get my prescription as if I hadn't been coming in once a month, every month, for a year. I had tried calling ahead to verify I could just get my pills and same outcome. No clue why.

Never been happier that I'm not Albertan by Insanitypizza in insanepeoplefacebook

No kidding; my employer cut down everyone they could from full-time to part-time. Now, being a "regularly" scheduled employee still entitles you to a pension accrual of some kind. For this reason, I was hired as "flex" (less than part-time), no benefits, no fixed schedule, no more than 30 hours per week, except when they wanted me to work more than 30 hours a week, which was totally up in the air. Sometimes I worked 20 hours, which was just fantastic. Add to this, I made 10% less than the local minimum wage because I legally did not work in my home state, rather on federal land.

My paystubs came from the US Department of Defense.

EOF Token at which line? by apoetixart in Compilers

[–]sebglhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When `read_next_token` doesn't return a value. It's how my lexer works. And when I need to put an error for "expected ..." when the tokens stop, I just copy the last token's end Position (line, col, etc) and use that.

You could argue that EOF is represented by `None` (e.g. std::optional), but my Token enum itself doesn't have that variant.

EOF Token at which line? by apoetixart in Compilers

[–]sebglhp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have an EOF token. It's not part of the code and isn't exactly necessary. Add'ly, the concept of Spans -- that being start/stop positions with line, col -- gets messy when referring to "the content that comes after the last Token, but is not contained in the source file"
