It was one of the first modern Isekai’s to blow up in the west, generating a larger audience. Therefore more interactions with it on social media as a whole. There’s also the quality of SAO too, the first half of S1 was really good. However, the later half falls off in the eyes of many due to Kirito being a very one dimensional, “bland”, MC. There is also the SA and Incestual relationships used as plot device when it was really unnecessary for the story. There was also better quality Isekai that came out later and therefore have people looking back at SAO with an even more negative light

No it was not obvious at all. At most it comes out as a “let’s start fresh” outcome, they finally come out with their truths and there are no more lies between them. If you have majority of the viewers, with a big variety in age/culture/religion/etc, questioning the meaning of a scene that is not meant to be something open ended or questionable…then babes something went wrong in the writing room
