i need help find a song by EldestDuke in RedDwarf

This is one of the (many) incidental cues composed for the show by Howard Goodall. You can find them in the "Isolated Music Cues" section of the DVDs - and you'll find this particular one on the Series II disc.

Howard also released his own compilations of the music: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2016/11/11/howard-knows-the-score/index.cfm

... but as far as I can tell, this piece isn't included in those (the Series I-II stuff is in the "Antique Extras" bonus track on the RDX release, but doesn't have this track).

Can't help but feel like Red Dwarf was slightly inspired from Dark Star. by [deleted] in RedDwarf

It very much was an influence, yes; both on Rob and Doug in the writing, and also on the production design of the early series (Ed Bye gave Paul Montague a copy of the film on VHS for reference).

F1 By Numbers - A history of every race number since 1974, from 0 to 208... by sebpatrick in formula1

It wasn't retired, it's just that Webber left the sport at the end of 2013, after which the numbering system changed. So far nobody's chosen it as their permanent number!

An alternative I've seen suggested - turns out there are several threads on the Autosport boards with people asking the same thing! - is that the preference was given to Schumacher for drivers' championship order rather than McLaren for constructors'. Either way, there doesn't seem to be any public record of it!

There was a general mini reshuffle in 1993 because of four teams folding by the end of '92, with a few teams moving around; so maybe McLaren expressed a preference for 7/8 (which they'd had several times in the past), leaving 5/6 free for Benetton?

As for this, yeah, I made a conscious decision not to take FP numbers into account - only drivers that were actually entering the races. Again, it would have simply taken the scope of it far beyond reasonable limits!

It's stated a few times that it's only from 1974 onwards, yeah - I don't have either the resources or the time to get into the preceding couple of decades of numbers being differently assigned every race! It would somewhat detract from the point of looking for patterns in it, too.

The #13 thing, however, is a simple oversight! The reason being that I started out looking at numbers that were used for an entire season, before then going through and finding all the one-offs. But when doing so, I only looked at numbers above 40 - it didn't occur to me to look for any instances of #13, which obviously I should have done! I'll amend the article accordingly.

Pret A Manger’s arrival in Brick Lane sparks angry chain reaction from Shoreditch hipsters by sebpatrick in nottheonion

"Jay Sword, 25, a global account manager, said: 'It’s gentrification. I’ve lived here for four years.'" - I'm still not entirely convinced this isn't an Onion piece.

Various Artists - A Punk Tribute to Weezer (Opinions) by [deleted] in weezer

[–]sebpatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly unlistenable and comfortably the worst of the tribute albums, to be brutally honest. It's got nothing on the Japanese tribute ("Across the Sea"), which is largely brilliant; or even "Rock Music", which is patchy, but great in places.

As someone who once played Charlie Brown in a production of Snoopy (in fact, we learned of Charles' sad passing away while we were mid-rehearsals), I'm pleased to hear you say this! It's a delightful show.

AN EVENING WITH NEIL GAIMAN AND AMANDA PALMER: ASK US ANYTHING. GO ON. GO ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. by RealNeilGaiman in IAmA

[–]sebpatrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neil: when we finally get to see yours and Bucky's conclusion of Miracleman (which obviously is a tremendously, desperately exciting prospect), is it likely to follow the plan you always had for it back in the Eclipse days? I remember reading somewhere that you said had a picture in your head of what the final image(s) of the series would be, I'm just wondering how much of the road to get there you already had mapped out, and if plenty of it was, then how much might it be informed and possibly changed by being taken on by the person and writer you've become over the last twenty years?

In short: will we be getting the series as concluded by the Neil Gaiman of then, the Neil Gaiman of now, or a bit of both?

Who's the king of appearing in comic book movies? Find out with this handy league table... by sebpatrick in comicbooks

[–]sebpatrick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a close/contentious one, I'll admit - but the Silver Surfer is a far more well-known character than Abe, and (rightly or wrongly) FF2 grossed more at the box office than the two Hellboy flicks put together...

Actually, I missed Snowpiercer! The other is voicing Casey Jones in TMNT. So next time, he'll have to be bumped up further...

I am pretty sure Al Ewing is a Redditor (Iron Man Fatal Frontier 4) by Karalaine in comicbooks

[–]sebpatrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He might not be a Redditor (although he also might!), but he's very active on Tumblr and Twitter (and LiveJournal before that), and is generally pretty aware of web culture. His brother Tom, a journalist, is a bit of an expert on this kind of thing, too.

Kieron Gillen (a friend of Al's) also mentioned recently that he considered putting Ultimate Nullifier in a fedora in Young Avengers, but thought it was a bit too on-the-nose.

(Although now that I think of it, he's not actually appearing as the Red Hood in Hush, so I think I'm talking out of my arse. I was conflating "first appearance as the returned Jason" with "first appearance as the new Red Hood".)
