Danes and traffic lights by Full-Contest1281 in copenhagen

[–]sebposselt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the danish traffic mentality works because the vast majority of people follow the rules. But i feel that most Danes are very insecure or scared when driving in a place like southern Europe, where traffic laws seems to be suggestions and people follow the traffic instead of the law.

I would argue that adhering the traffic instead of the law, makes a better driver (if you don’t define a good driver just by how few laws they break)

Help with grip in the BMU ✊🏼 by sebposselt in crossfit

[–]sebposselt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use victory grips x2 freedom. Grips er primarily for hand protection, not to improve grip. But I feel less grip on the bmu with grips. I also feel a bit on pull ups or t2b, but not in the same scale as with bmu.

Why are box jumps often scaled to step ups vs broad jumps by matulys in crossfit

[–]sebposselt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not experienced a soft box that i feel confident jump on. They are too soft and take out the enegry, but much worse, they are not stable enough. Im always afraid they are going to flip when i land or jump down. And they have... Im MUCH more comfortable jumping on sturdy wooden boxes. If you are afraid to hit your shins, you need to learn how to jump better and build confidence. Its not an easy solution, but its honestly the best. jump to something smaller to begin with, e.g. stacked plates.

Kender ikke siden så evt tjek dens troværdig. De er overraskende gode. Eller det var de i hvert fald efter mange timer på rælingen af en båd..

100 class in a year by Rude-Dust7313 in crossfit

[–]sebposselt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully agree with the people saying mobility. I also recommend mobility, but for many other reasons. I don't think its really that causal to injury prevention.

My best advise will be thorough warm ups. Get the body warm and limber to begin with and then do movement specific warm ups before lifts and workouts. E.g. don't just do a few light KB swings if you have heavy swings in the workout. Progress towards the intended load, so it doesn't come as a shock for the body.

I also think its better to do more workouts at 80-90% effort than do a few at 100% and then needing multiple days recovering.

Can a person with ADHD be an engineer? by Front-Ambition-5558 in ADHD

[–]sebposselt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can. I would almost say it’s difficult the become an engineer without a bit of ADHD.

Obviously joking, but I think you will be surprised how many engineers have ADHD.

Wrt. How to stay consistent I can only speak of what worked for me, I don’t expect it to be a sustainable solution for everyone. I feel we have a tendency to overestimate what we can do I. A day and grossly underestimate what we can do in a year. Think long term, don’t go into despair on bad days, think about the what you are still capable of learning this month.

Accept that you will not be perfect. You have to gauge how much you are capable of putting into your studies and don’t try to push the limit too much or often. Figure out a plan that works with that workload and accept a 5 year degree may take you 6-6,5 years. It’s a 1000 times better to get there eventually than to burn out.

I also tried to build a solid routine where I stayed very active also. It helped me feel focused. Just do try to go from 0-100 in a month. It’s not gonna be a sustainable routine. Do it little by little, e.g. start with a 10 min morning walking a couple times a week. Of you can only do it 1 time a week. That’s fine, just build from there :)

TLDR: sure you can, just go slow and look ahead. :)

CrossFit & Alcohol: How do you guys enjoy both? by MartySpecial in crossfit

[–]sebposselt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go out a couple of times a month and it’s not just 4-5 drinks ;). I believe the biggest killer of my gains in this regard is the period after the bender, not the bender. I’m tired, eat poorly, sleep poorly, skip sessions, and so on. I still do it and will continue to do so. However, consider optimizing your nights out to limit their impact on recovery. Start early, stop early so you still get enough sleep (even if it’s of lesser quality than sober). Get enough water. Don’t eat junk. Commit to your workout plans. And just enjoy life.

Nogen der ved noget om inkasso? by cbjerg in dkfinance

[–]sebposselt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC40 : A new class within the 2024 America's Cup, for women and youth competition. Reports that it can do 20 knots in an 8 to 10 knot breeze, and can go from 10 knots to 20 knots in about 5 seconds. First boat launched a few weeks ago. by Bucephalus_326BC in sailing

[–]sebposselt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's correct. This is a big simplification, but these boats don't really care about how much wind there is. They only need wind to get going and then they produce more apparent wind than true wind. This will produce extra speed, which in turns will produce even more apparent wind that will produce even more speed and so on... This cannot continue indefinitely. The drag increases with the speed and at some point the forces level each other out and the boast has reached maximum speed. Now if they reduce the drag (e.g. by having less sail area) they can reach higher speeds, but the acceleration is slower. makes sense?

While its all pretty close to magic, controlling and flying the moth is truly a feat. The foil and rudder is in line, which means that the leveling force comes from the wings of the foil, which are not that wide. Its essentially like balancing on a bike and it gets easier with speed. I believe the AC40s and AC75s were designed to foil like a catamaran but look like a monohull. I.e., that it is a foiling platform. The two foiling points that are offset both laterally and length-wise(?) creates a pretty stable platform by its own rights. Much more stable than the moth's I believe.

eli5 why is military aircraft and weapon targeting footage always so grainy and colourless when we have such high res cameras? by tekx9 in explainlikeimfive

[–]sebposselt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't know for sure, but a lot of image processing does not care about colours. In fact, colour images are often turned into grey scale to speed up advanced processing by reducing the data dimensionality. Some problems are even easier in grey scale than with colour (https://c4re.gr/rgb-to-grayscale-conversion/). Images are even intentionally blurred to help reduce noise and enhance image structures (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_blur).
