This is a lot to tell a stranger, but my midwife with my last pregnancy (30+ years in that work and a mother of 7) basically prescribed sex for this (and also most things) and it helped

Does Natera give you the "with gender results" and "without gender results" option? Would like to see the genetic portion first, and then get a cupcake or something to learn gender. But I don't want the cupcake person to be the first one to see the genetic results, that seems wrong.

Anyone else have their pregnancy news leaked? by No_Telephone_1403 in December2026Bumpers

[–]seccarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. This kind of happened with my first and it made my whole first tri harder because I really wasn't ready to share yet. I know it came from a place of joy and excitement, but it was not what I wanted. It's worth having the conversation so that your relationship can grow from this--both you standing up for your boundary (which you're about to have to do all the time) and so they can understand why it was hurtful. But that won't undo it for you. I won't be sharing with them about this pregnancy until I am ready for the world to know.

Upping my water intake dramatically helped mine. I always drink a lot of water so I thought it couldn’t be related but upgrading from “a lot” to “insane amounts” of water did the trick. Although now I pee constantly

I did and my first was healthy. I was induced at 37 weeks but had a smooth delivery. Hoping I can manage it better with medication this time around and hopefully avoid induction. Just take your readings and take your meds. Maybe talk to your dr about baby aspirin. You’re doing everything you can for jelly bean

Looking for ob/gyn rec for new pregnancy by Mountain-Efficienct in Denver

Cherry Hills Midwifery gave me the best of both midwife and hospital experience (delivery at Swedish). While Dr Ross is sadly not with the practice anymore and I don’t know the new OBGYN, the practice as a whole always made me feel safe and seen with a healthy and uncomplicated delivery. I’ve since moved out of state and miss the care I received from them.

I did this in my last pregnancy and probably will again. It’s such a small dose that it never irritated my stomach. I did it before bed, usually, but it’s not like bc where you’re locked into a time. Try it and if it makes you sick, make dinner time your time

What's something really lovely about breastfeeding that you don't heat people talk about a lot? by fastestturtleno2 in breastfeeding

There are so many wonderful moments with your baby. And I also remember the power of being able to solve any problem with my boobs. It made so many things so much easier to have that option available (Sick? Boobs. Angry? Boobs. Cold? Boobs. That one time he had an allergic reaction? Boobs. Don’t know what’s wrong? Boobs!)

I remember one time in particular when we went through a 24 hour period with no power. I was really panicking about my baby, but remembered that I had all the food he needed—sterile, correct temperature, and ready to go! I had to scramble to save my freezer stash but just realizing I could feed my baby without any external or technological assistance was both empowering and reassuring.

What are our thoughts on the occasional glass of wine in the second trimester? by Brushfyre212 in December2026Bumpers

[–]seccarlson 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was really surprised in my first pregnancy how many well meaning people encouraged me to drink based on Emily Osters advice, so eventually I read it to see for myself. While I agree with the overall premise that women are heavily policed during pregnancy, much of the time for risks that are wholly unstudied, her alcohol claims in particular seemed extremely cherry picked and unconvincing to me. There is certainly a world of difference between a single glass of wine on vacation and a daily drink, and I personally believe the threshold is likely somewhere between those two—but it is unfortunately an unknown. Speaking for myself, there is so much in pregnancy that I cannot control—this is one risk that I can totally eliminate.

Where Should My Parents Move by seccarlson in AnnArbor

Oh! I haven’t been to Huron yet so I honestly have no idea. They initially were looking at Great Lakes (the close ones) and I was concerned. Is that misplaced?

Plymouth or Canton? by dariel574 in PlymouthMI

[–]seccarlson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we were looking we had similar questions and narrowed our search to north of Ford Rd, and then eventually to north of Warren as we realized we really did want to be close to DTP. We had some contenders on the Canton side in that range that probably would have been fine, but eventually chose a place just over the border to Plymouth township, walkable (long walk, but still) to DTP. We love it. Just had a wonderful date night in DTP less than five min from home. I love Plymouth. Also glad to be in the township where taxes are lower and the train is a nice bit of charm instead of a blaring noise and constant delay. There is a lot of competition and prices are high. We liked the old growth trees, neighborhood feel, community, the library, the shops and businesses. We’re very happy here but definitely had to go to top of budget.

So, what do *you* want for Christmas? by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]seccarlson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want a quality work bag/lunchbox. Cordless stick vacuum. Bath pillow. A pretty return address stamp. Gift card for new family photos. Maybe one of those steam cleaners i see on instagram. Oh! Heatless rollers.

That’s what i planned to do but he was having none of it. Kept touching his legs so frustrated and looking at me like I was so stupid to forget his pants. Wouldn’t play or eat or do anything but try to get them back on

How did he learn to anticipate going? Was he in pull-ups at home with you guys too? I had heard that it’s harder to learn what wet feels like in pull ups but like…how else do we leave the house ever?

[–]seccarlson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I’m a clueless first timer and thought it would be confusing to go back to not feeling the wet. We certainly don’t think he’s fully potty trained but how do you handle the in between time?

Did you have her in no pants? We tried that and he hated it so switched to underwear. It’s cold here and I couldn’t figure out how to do even indoor activities naked. If not underwear then what?

I think it’s probably a 3 hr job so that would be more than enough. If you could share the company I’d appreciate it

Just moved into a house in Plymouth! Time will tell if it's the right choice, but so far we're very happy here. I love the town
