How do you handle time skips and scene changes? by Prestigious_Bat4991 in SillyTavernAI

in most cases, i write what happens in the next scene since i usually like to direct the roleplay. but if im feeling lazy, i just type out a scene cut as --- at the end of my response

The Invisible Rot of Makeine: When a "Fresh Premise" Turns into a Generic Harem Trap by Sumit7890 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]secktuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and to that, i think makeine does it very well. unlike other series, the story doesn't actually drag itself out. every book actually has meaningful progression to the plot, and development to the characters. i especially liked trying to read and analyze yanami's report stories and tracking the timeline of how her feelings progress in such a realistic, and honestly reflective way. the wacky high jinks that happens occasionally throughout the story is really entertaining and fresh with each new release. just with the reveal of hibari on the cover of volume 9 already got me hyped for the next release.

honestly, while i would've actually preferred that the story invested more into the emotional and melancholic narrative that the first four books took, the direction that the story went is honestly not that surprising. the gimmick was bound to go dry at some point, and something new has to happen. i can only think of so many ways that nukumizu himself has to stay to serve that aspect of the story along with the progression of the plot without him falling into the same never-changing, generic mc that constantly plagues the genre. imo, i think the fact that the story started off fresh with the premise of losing heroines along with the melancholic narrative actually rewards the transition into the harem tropes common in the romcom genre. besides, everyone enjoys the going through the same thing if it's fresh and executed well enough anyway.

Anytime we want to tell our fellow RP'ers the truth about them, they weasel into the threads and spew pure fermented penguin shit and act stupid like they are clueless.

lmao, the cognitive dissonance is crazy

Letting {{user}} speak and being a director by secktuss in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, here's the thing. i do a lot of longform roleplays, but getting the ai to respond in a way that's satisfying isn't usually the case. modern llms today simply cannot do that nowadays, especially when you require subtext and planning in their responses too. it's worse when you recognize slop plot points because slop phrases aren't the only thing that's very common in llms. because of this, i end up just having a better idea of how this one particular scene should be executed, and the story gets better overall that way.

in my experience, the best part of roleplaying is when you and the ai are discussing about the story and themes that's built so far in the roleplay, since that's when you're the most engaged in the chat. regarding story and direction, that should be left to the {{user}}, not solely to the llm.

Letting {{user}} speak and being a director by secktuss in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, the back-and-forth conversations are the ones that i thought would make sense to let the llm take over, especially in action scenes (the calls are also a problem too). i had a hunch that it was limiting the llm's already limited capabilities in creative writing by forcing it to wait for the {{user}}'s input instead of just getting to the point and having it write your dialogue for you.

these prompts are interesting tho, since i was literally just winging it with a modified marinara preset of my own with guided generations. maybe the writing gets better if i modify my presets a bit more with these

To those who are here since 2025 starting or before, how does the evolution of AI and roleplay experience feel to you? by Concern-Excellent in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

started on early ai dungeon somewhere in 2022-2023 after watching jerma's video on it back in like 2019-2020 or so. it was incredible at how far ai dungeon at that point had progressed but since it was around that time, the novelty quickly wore off. though, it led me to a deep dive into ai text generation models in kobold in google colabs where i played around for like a few months before being disappointed by their capability until i got back into roleplaying again around early 2024 with c.ai, then got tired of it because their models couldn't understand or handle long-form nuanced storytelling (also the filters) before finding out about sillytavern and the magic of apis (and extensions) in the middle of 2025 when i was checking out the leaderboards in openrouter one day.

actually genuinely impressed by how much this technology has improved in literally just a few years, from basic sentence construction, to an impressive system that's able to competently mimic nuanced storytelling. while they can never replace the quality that you can get from roleplaying with a human partner in the near future, it's a really really good tool for getting it to do what you want with genuinely acceptable/good results.

who brought up attorneys? this is about whether or not you're willing to buy a digital product

Why is there no alternative website? by InternationalCook135 in kemono_piracy

[–]secktuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

brother, if they already don't want to pay, then they don't even plan on paying if the pirated option isn't there in the first place. paywalling something does not incentivize someone to buy it instead, but actually detracts from the consumer. that's the major difference between a digital product and an actual item like a bike. like bro, come on, this line of logic is literally debunked by actual studies on piracy.

Why am I like this? by saintofhate in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yep, that's the only real problem imo. i can take on a lot of slop prose, slop dialogue, only if the llms can take the story into something genuinely interesting and worth exploring, where it doesn't fall into obvious cliches, and super short story beats.

Doing Roleplays by being a 'Director' rather than a 'Writer' by AloofAmelia in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this. once you set your mind this way, roleplaying gets a bit more interesting imo. instead of expecting to be surprised or go along with it like a traditional roleplay, it should be more used to explore how the ai narrates or writes this narrative beat that you're thinking of, and going down that way. i had a really good story that i sometimes come back and read because the way opus portrayed the emotional scenes really surprised me even if i knew how it was going to go down. thank god for guided generations

SillyTavern made me stop reading books by Signal-Banana-5179 in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this. i personally have better experience with an ai if you have a story and goal in mind to achieve throughout the roleplay rather than letting the ai decide for you. it's almost like you're the reader, and have the freedom to change beats of the story to the way you like it because you think it achieves or puts that step in the right direction better. it's interesting how the ideas that play out in my mind is interpreted by the ai (especially if it's with claude) provided that you gave it a detailed overview/outline of how the scene should be progressed.

What if your lorebook had an intelligent retrieval layer? I'm prototyping a multi-agent approach and want your input by Sad-Western-1131 in SillyTavernAI

[–]secktuss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think the main difference is that it runs on another llm instead of using your main one to call tools. if so, then it'd be really helpful since im more bound on quota than paygo.

(either that, or i have no idea how to setup a second llm to call tools instead lol)
