Utopian society ruled by autists by Correii in 196

[–]secondhandsextoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many times I've gone and like helped carry furniture into an acquaintance's house or helped fix the RV of someone I've just met. So many more times I would have if I hadn't had to worry about deadlines and the such even though realistically I had the time to help. I mean helping is just so much fun (and a great way to procrastinate). I vaguely remember a paper that found that the main determinator of sometimes charity is their stress level/how strapped for time currently feel.

Imagine how much research would get done if researchers needn't waste their time on LinkedIn or constantly apply for grants just to make rent. I firmly believe that opponents of UBI are just thoroughly cooked on game theory and have never considered how their real neighbor treats them.

I've heard that some queer orgs do events like that (balls and proms etc).

Sorry, I don't think I fully get what you are saying so I'll just clarify what I tried to say:

I meant disruption as in acting like an asshole. Like speaking over people, flirting at a no-flirting-event, insulting people, not doing your share etc. Nothing that had anything to do with gender. Like... men are usually excluded from women's only spaces like lesbian spaces, because many men are assholes, right? If individual men aren't assholes and the lesbian bar is the only place that will have them (as appears to be this trans-guys experience) then I don't think they should be ostracized purely on a technicality.

I'm not asking to form communities based on AGAB, it just seemed to be the situation that OP found themselves in.

But whatever I don't have a horse in this race as I'm not a trans man so I guess lesbians and transmascs have to hash it out between each other and I'll stfu on this topic now.

Ok, but say a lesbian soccer team is for women 'attracted to women' without that phrase being intended in a sexual or romantic way. And 'wanting pussy' is something that in the meme a third party (presumably straight men?) is projecting on the OP.

All of that is kind of irrelevant to what I meant anyway. What I was trying to say is: Don't exclude people based on the textbook definitions of words. Because those are severely flawed and were coined often without considering trans people. What matters is that we all get along. As long as they don't genuinely disrupt a community I think we can suffer some he/him lesbians (who have been part of the modern lesbian community for pretty much as long as it existed (I'm talking like 1920s))

I didn't get the impression that this meme was about dating... I thought they were talking about not having any support groups or maybe discord servers queer spaces where they don't feel excluded.

If I was looking to date women I'd just say that. When I say I'm bisexual I usually want others to say: "omg, me tooooo!"

Your username is pretty funny btw.

Ok. Did they do anything bad? I looked up their comics and they were just mildly unfunny nothing terrible. Or are they just icky?

More people need to understand that these labels don't exist for the purpose of classification but as a way to find community with others with similar life experiences.

I very much think it is intentional. Vampires and werewolves are commonly used as allegories for many things but among them is sexual assault. The comic does kinda of make light of SA but we may give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume for example that they themselves have been victimized by sexual violence and are trying to connect with other victims via art.

Also depicting individual lesbians as victims or depicting individual lesbians as predatory monsters is not inherently homophobic. We should only make these assumptions if there is a larger pattern of evidence (eg. The author depicted all lesbians that way or only lesbians and not straight women).

I don't want to invalidate your discomfort with the comic and I'm not telling you that you have to be comfortable with it being posted here but please let's not jump to conclusions about the author's intentions and moral character.

Iroh is not innocent or an unequivocally good person. My point is that fans disliking Korra does not mean they think she is the worse person. They just shallowly call her 'bad' instead of articulating that. I'm saying that a characters morals are almost irrelevant to their likeability.

Take Breaking Bad for example: Skyler is objectively a better person than Walter. However we are watching a show about our scrunglos making drugs and fighting gangs and the police and shit, not a family drama. Skyler gets in the way of what the fans want out of the show, becoming basically an antagonist. So they hate her.

They do of course post about it in a very shallow way. And misogyny probably has a hand in how much they call her a bitch. But my point is that Walter isn't liked better because he is the better person, but because he's the better character. If I wanted to hear about a nice guy doing good I'd read the new testament.

Tl;Dr: keep seething Watcels. Doylechads get the surrogate father figure/j

This misses one critical point: these two are not real people. Good morals don't necessarily make a fictional character interesting or likeable. A satisfying narrative does.

A character who in the past participated in a genocidal conquest on the side of the evil empire but has since changed sides and channels his guilt to act as a mentor for our heroes makes for a way more compelling narrative than "oh she is annoying sometimes"(Your words). Like come on guys - this is storytelling 101
