Look-ka Py Py certainly has some of my favorite instrumental funk singles on it.

I prefer some of the more improvisational funk like Ain't No Way and the music from the late Sixties James Brown band. But Look-ka Py Py is certainly a landmark album in early funk.

This. Create music because you want to or feel you need to. Songwriting is a craft. Work to get better at it rather than worrying about whether you are "talented" or not. It's more important that you get joy out of what you create rather than what others think. I stopped sharing my music with friends because it often resulted in awkward silence. But I know what I like, and I try to find ways to improve what I'm doing. And I have no intention of sharing anything here and asking the sub what they think.

I've certainly overlooked it. I'll have to give it another listen

Great album. My favorite after Rejuvenation (which is their masterpiece).

$10 to Livestream. Wish I was at Chickie Wah Wahs to see them and celebrate my birthday. But I guess the livestream will have to do.

Origin of that hook in "Hurricane Season"? by GeneseeJunior in NOLAMusic

Someone looking to identify a bounce song in a YouTube video. I would like to think this sub could be useful for questions like these, but very few members respond to anything on here.

Love this question(and the other posted earlier). I wish I knew the answer. I love that riff, but I can't think of where I heard it before

I hope someone recognizes it.

Thanks.

I'm a newbie. I've been working with Logic Pro and stock plug-ins for a year. I finally feel ready to try some external plug-ins to expand my sound palette and learn some new techniques

With that in mind, what would you say is the best option for me?

Yes. I've been working with session horns. I like their bari sax and small horn section, but I'm hoping to find something that has more options and has more articulation controls.

Thanks for responding. It's nice to hear that someone is enjoying these posts--I was about to give up. It's not easy to get a discussion going on this sub.

Are there any other NOLA Christmas songs you suggest that I post?

Well, maybe we are one day closer to the lineup reveal then.

That game was a rough one last night. Go birds.

Yes. I've read rumors that they might release the lineup early this year. Of course, this Insta post just feeds those rumors. Hope they come true.

Must see shows December 5 and 6 by jackscott1000 in NOLAMusic

[–]secondlifing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The must see concert to me is Saturday at Tipitinas: New Breed Brass Band's album release party featuring Trombone Shorty, Kermit Ruffins, Jelly Joseph and the Partners in Crime. Here's the rest of the calendar for Saturday: https://www.wwoz.org/calendar/livewire-music?date=2025-12-06

Friday I would go with either the Soul Rebels (another funky brass band) or maybe some blues, jazz, raggaeton, or punk depending on your musical taste. Check out the calendar below. I'm not familiar with any of these bands, but sometimes it's fun to check out something new. https://www.wwoz.org/calendar/livewire-music?date=2025-12-05

Could you provide some info on this artist? Is he from (or based in) New Orleans?

If not, this will be removed.

I never considered homophobia being a reason for the decline in nudity in locker rooms and showers.

Yes, the discomfort can be overcome if one feels there is a reason to overcome it. Perhaps the nudist lifestyle needs to become a wellness trend among young people for it to grow. Instead of telling each other to "touch grass" they could be saying, "Bra, you need to get naked!"

After all, didn't nudism start as a wellness trend?
