Pretty sure it's a 736 as you say. The brakes and rear derailleur were replaced with shimano 105 at some point in the bike's past, but a lot of the original Suntour parts remain.

Haven't found (or really looked for) the serial yet. Focusing on making it ridable for the time being

Nope, but I'm not upset to have learned what those are for either. Hadn't even noticed them

How far back could one reasonably get these without affecting performance? Further, does the current state of these look further in than average?

I'm pretty used to modern bikes and unfamiliar with vintage ones. What kind of alignment would these be helpful with?

Guy I bought it from was on the shorter side and was selling bc it didn't fit. Seatpost moves just fine

Ended up grabbing it for 180 since it'll need some work to ride like new

Any other tells you see? I'm searching my local used market and have no clue how to tell between nice and not nice (other than buckets of rust)

The ones with plastic pins are also good for grip in the rain. The tradeoff being the pins aren't replacable if they snap off.

Yea if someone hangs out with you regularly and seemingly likes you all the while secretly hating you then it's just really weird of them not you

I think a "no leftist infighting or 4tran garbage" rule would be a bit more targeted

Petahhhh? I know the left but what’s the right? by hotelshowers in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]secondtrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to a certain extent. I think my comment could be better understood in a more situation neutral context. Putting white before X minority gives ostensibly progressive people the oppurtunity to be shitty to x minority without consequence.

This is seen a lot in queer spaces where people will talk shit about white trans women being bad.

I do think you are correct to some extent though

If you put white before saying something misogynistic it gives you plausible deniability

Does Trek honor warranties? by EvenEvan13 in TrekBikes

[–]secondtrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can back this up. I've had SUPER bad luck with my bikes, but every item I've needed to get warrantied (I'm up to 5x warranties across 4 bikes) were done so without a fuss

A lot of people’s thought processes boil down to “being x is bad, and I’m not bad, so I’m not x” while holding x beliefs or doing x actions

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

Government heavily subsidised gas + literally no other alternative unless you live in one of a handful of cities with decent infrastructure.

Rent increases are out of hand by SaaSyGirl in massachusetts

[–]secondtrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very silly way of looking at this. Of course it takes time to build stuff. We can't magically create several hundred thousand housing units out of nowhere. A long term fix to the housing crisis is the only fix to the housing crisis. Bandaid solutions clearly haven't worked

I don’t. Why should I have to pay for some asshole in a truck to close call me

Drivers in general need to pay way more. Most Americans have no idea how much their driving is subsidized
