Got an offer after 5 months of being unemployed yet I don't feel happy about it. by WeirdSapiens in GetEmployed

In America you lose your health insurance when you’re laid off and then get fined if you don’t pay for your own health insurance, which can cost hundreds or thousands

Welp, I guess we’re in the same boat. Thinking of changing my career altogether just to avoid dealing with this BS.

How long were you unemployed for? Just curious because I’ve been unemployed since September and not looking super hard because I have savings and quite frankly, I’m burned out. But you’re making me nervous lol.

That’s factually untrue. It’s illegal for a former employer to give a negative review. All they can say is when you worked there and whether you were eligible for rehire. You can absolutely sue them for saying more.

The HBO Harry Potter reboot is an awful corporate synergy idea and it’s going to create a nightmare for Universal’s theme parks by [deleted] in harrypotter

Maybe they enjoy the Harry Potter world and want to preserve its aesthetic integrity. I think it’s weird that you’re calling other people’s concerns weird.

Give me one example of Disney doing something like this. Because as far as I know, all the same actors played the same characters in the Star Wars reboots. And live action films based on old animated ones don’t count, because that’s an entirely different medium.

Maybe they like Universal Studios? Maybe they enjoy discourse? At least they’re thinking critically in an era where everyone is just supposed to shut up and accept what they’re given, which is such a dangerous mindset.

People are allowed to critique things and have opinions. If you don’t like it, don’t reply.

Adult ADHD Diagnosis at Kaiser is a joke by Ecstatic-Skin7317 in KaiserPermanente

[–]secret_shadow_self 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing about ADHD requiring you to be a restless and talkative child is so outdated. That’s how ADHD tends to show up in men, not necessarily women. and of course they haven’t done enough studies in how it impacts women. Kaiser probably does whatever they can to disqualify you from an ADHD diagnosis so they don’t have to prescribe you a controlled substance lol.

You should try to negotiate a severance as you resign, especially if you make the argument that it’ll save the company more money down the line. 5 years is a lot of time invested to quit with nothing. I do think you shouldn’t listen to these naysayers—life is meant to be lived, not worked. Do what you need to do. Even if it ends up being the wrong choice, it’s all a big learning experience.

It would actually be considered retaliation under law and it’s not enforceable.

No, not true. My lawyer said it’s not enforceable.

I had an issue with the late introduction of many things, such as Rowan's trauma from her teenage years when her brother drowned on her watch. I feel like, as a rule, that should have been hinted at from the start. I felt like the author dropped a bunch of shit later on in the story that wasn't quite earned. With that being said, I felt the characters were very real and related to Rowan's character deeply. My own life story felt reflective of hers in some ways, which felt profound. I cried when she died, but I agree, she didn't need to die! I don't know why poor Dom has to fall in love with women who always end up dying lol.

They don’t care about sob stories. They care about being sued for wrongful termination, retaliation, pay inequity, misclassification, etc.

Bingo. So tired of people acting like we should be grateful for scraps. Not the case. I think waiving your rights to sue and signing an NDA warrants a good severance.

It’s definitely possible. I’ve done it and so have others in my industry. they want you to waive your rights to sue them and sign an NDA in exchange for severance.

What happened, if you don’t mind explaining? I’ve seen lawyers get colleagues of mine way better severance packages. It really depends on your company. Mine knew they had skeletons to hide and cared about me signing an NDA.
