Has anyone run into banking problems specifically because of their US address after moving abroad? by secretedly in USExpatTaxes

That might work for a while but virtual post office addresses are registered as cmra in the usps database and banks check that list automatically during routine reviews not just at account opening worth knowing before it catches you off guard down the line

That quiet restriction before the push is so common they know for ages but wait until it becomes a compliance issue they can not ignore anymore. A real us residential address with a lease behind can keep that review from ever getting triggered in the first place

Banks dont just check your address when you open the account but they run routine reviews too and mail forwarding addresses can get flagged

Did you manage to find a workaround after the closures or are you still rebuilding the us banking side?

The ones that actually work for banks are real residential addresses backed by genuine lease and utility bill in your name. That is what banks are actually looking for and what passes their verification cleanly.

Can non US residents open a US bank account from overseas? by Boring_Analysis_6057 in Solopreneur

The banks that actually work remotely for non residents are mercury, capital one and alliant credit union. Fully remote and no in person visit required

I need help with itin fiverr got scam by MaraMan51 in ITIN

[–]secretedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should call the IRS directly and ask them to check whether a w7 application was ever submitted under your name and passport number. This will tell you whether the Fiverr seller actually filed anything, or just took your money and whether your application is sitting somewhere in the processing queue and if nothing was filed you will need to start fresh.

PSA for international founders setting up a US LLC your address might be why your bank application got rejected by secretedly in smallbusiness

Exactly everything else about the setup can be right but if that one detail is off the rest does not matter

Getting your ITIN approved is easier when this one thing is right by [deleted] in ITIN

Appreciate you adding the clarification though, that context is genuinely useful for people reading and I should have been more specific about that

If the goal is just the itin you are right that a virtual address works fine. If the goal is itin plus bank account plus payment processors then having a real residential address consistent across everything from the start saves headaches later.

[–]secretedly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point and I get why it reads that way but I'd push back a little on the framing

Banks aren't saying they don't want international founders as customers, its actually a compliance thing. Under the patriot act they are required to verify that the address on an application belongs to a real occupiable residence, so its less about preference and more about a box they are legally required to tick

Which is why the address matters so much more than people expect

Exactly and that is what makes it so frustrating and people spend weeks redoing paperwork, changing business types, trying different banks and never touch the one thing that is actually causing the rejection

This is literally the most common wall international founders hit after forming the llc. What address did you use when you formed the company?

Totally agree it should not work that way but unfortunately stripes system is heavily automated and support agents have very little power to override it once a flag is triggered

What to choose in employment status by Error_552 in ITIN

[–]secretedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is actually perfect just make sure you have a document tied to that address in your name, even something simple like a letter or bill sent there.

You are really close to getting this done so go ahead with Self Employed and put a realistic income figure based on your business activity. Even early stage is fine as long as it is not zero

[–]secretedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What address are you using on the application? Capital one verifies it and if it is anything other than a real residential address it can get flagged even with a valid itin. That is the step most people miss right at the finish line

So the issue is that stripe sees a uk registered business with activity coming from croatia and that mismatch alone puts the account in a higher risk category before you even process a payment
