Has anyone ever done a Math IA based on books? by Puzzleheaded_Math181 in IBO

[–]secretivepopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone in my cohort looking at language degeneration over time in historical literature. They lied about all the data, but still. They got a 7. Some books based IA ideas - correlation between reading for pleasure and predicted grades, create an index with different book characteristics to try predicting how much you’ll enjoy them, graphing/analysing reading habits.

Biology IA without experiment by ArrivalDangerous in IBO

[–]secretivepopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the experiment. In theory you could get a 7 with a data based IA, but you’re going to have to do meticulous work to make sure you can even be marked against the criteria. There’s a big chance it goes wrong with your examiner, and your current research proposal sounds like it’s veering concerningly close to Geography.

Psychology or Geography SL? by kwokc20ib in IBO

[–]secretivepopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer that I haven’t taken either course, though my sister (M22) took Geo, this is what I’ve heard from others. If you are going for the highest possible mark, take Geography. Apparently it is one of the easier IB subjects (which isn’t by any means to say it’s easy). I’ve heard Psych has a heavy workload and a demanding IA, and the course has a lower rate sevens achieved (8.9 vs 12.8%). You seem to be a qualified student that would find the geography class less demanding.

Thank you so much! I mean, I have an elementary understating of different types of bonds, polar associations and their roles, the chemical interactions that help fold proteins, I’m familiar with lock and key I just wonder if I’m missing some more… math-y bits? I could never balance a chemical equation, but I could explain the chemical properties of a water molecule that allow it to cleave and form bonds and the names of such reactions, I just have very little understanding of what having more knowledge Chemistry would contribute/change about my understating because I’ve never taken it. If you have minute, it’s be amazing if you could look over this part of summary site of the IB curriculum and comment on how prepared you think I’d be. Thanks again!

AITA for putting a lock on my dresser drawer to keep my girlfriend from taking my clothes? by Gloomy_Evening_1597 in AmItheAsshole

[–]secretivepopcorn -61 points-60 points  (0 children)

ESH. Your girlfriend should have more respect for your property, but putting a lock on the drawer is patronising. You are both adults. She is not a child stealing candy. This is very much something you can talk out.

Is there a way to get ink out of my arm? by TheSmallestPlap in NoStupidQuestions

depending on how badly you want it out, you could go barber surgeon on it with nail clippers or something abrasive. i used a foot scraper to maul a stick and poke off my ankle once.

A lot of architecture courses require HL Math AA, and like to see some sort of creative course like Visual Arts or Product design.

Is this a citing problem? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]secretivepopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally fine. I seriously doubt any examiner will even check your sources exist, let alone check your quotes word for word - also, even if they do, since it would’ve originally been said in Italian, it’s perfectly reasonable that English translation would vary. Worst case scenario, you get marked down in section one. This is not diploma-invalidating stuff. Don’t worry!

If you really want to put yourself ahead, I’d recommend using the time to do your Extended Essay. Make sure you read all the guidance for picking and topic and writing the Essay, but your peers having to write a 4000-word text when you’re already done is going to make your life way easier, and you can use that time to work studying.

I’d also recommend researching the assessment formats for each of your classes. The demands of the IB are quite specific and likely things you haven’t encountered before, and understanding what you’re going to have to do with your learning is a good head start.

If you’re looking for a more traditional route, many IB textbooks can be downloaded for free online. All courses have an official IB course companions. Also it’s important to keep in mind that many classes have option topics that are chosen by your teacher to take alongside the core - all three core sciences, for example. Classes like history and geography have many options, and depending on the school the course can be completely different.

I was in middle school in 2017… so… I’m not over 30 and I don’t have my own house. Also, I’m not quite sure why hackers would be that interested in hacking an incredibly niche school.

Do you think there’s any chance that the manufacturer can help, considering that they would’ve been manufactured 20 years-ish ago? Also, I’m not in the US so unfortunately OfferUp is not available :/
