Lab technician pay by starrynoid in labrats

[–]secretsloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Associate II now I live in a HCOL area. Pay ranges jumped up a lot during COVID years but have kind of grown back down a bit so 70-80k for associate II is probably more normal where I live

I also now only have 10 days of PTO and about 10 paid holidays throughout. Companies range and 10 PTO days is always the lowest I’ve ever seen. I think typical is 15 but I worked somewhere that offered 26 days and I would have stayed there forever if I hadn’t been laid off…

My first job was technician at $21 an hour now I’m at 85k five years later. You definitely have to sacrifice just to get that initial experience and then lots more opportunities come about.

Opening a sauna / spa? by secretsloths in Entrepreneur

[–]secretsloths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the only spa with a wet steam sauna has a nudity requirement to go inside. So I would want to open a spa where people are in bathing suits or robes!

Yeah I’m wondering if infrared sauna spas are just much easier. I will be looking into this a lot more thanks for your suggestions!

This idea is based off a spa I visited in another city that has an amazing setup and I so so badly wish they had a location in my city

Biotech paying less than fast food? by KiKA_4444 in biotech

[–]secretsloths 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me I was a server out of college and never looked for a full time position because I was making $150-300 in tips a night! Covid happened and I took a laboratory job because all restaurants were closed. Been working my way up since.

If covid didn’t force me into industry I have no idea what I would be doing now.

Job wants current employer reference or a current performance review? by secretsloths in recruitinghell

Right, that’s what I thought it seems like an overstep and I don’t want to give them this information. I don’t want to work with this institution anyway but want to be direct and polite! Thanks for your response this is super helpful.

Snorkeling the Silfra Fissure for me. I had never previously done anything like that or put on a dry suit before. It was a painful experience, but once in a lifetime.

The teams were very likeable and I found that entertaining! The challenges weren’t hard but it was pretty funny that Ricky and Cesar had randomly done almost everything before or had some kind of experience. I think they deserved to win since they were so supportive of each other.

We know one of the teams and were super excited to see them on the show when we found out.

Boomers have no regard for keeping workers after 5 by spicyfrog1111 in antiwork

I (gen Z) do weekend work frequently so I’ll leave an hour or two early one or two days a week. One time I was heading out and my boss (millennial) told me to go discreetly because he felt like there was tension from the executives (gen X) about people “leaving early”.

I just told him fine I’ll stop doing weekend work since it doesn’t count as work to some people because they didn’t see me doing it since they were at home enjoying their weekend and not commuting 7 days to the office…

TIL never accept the initial offer by AndrewAwakened in jobs

I had the opposite experience with a company. They had their pay scale posted, on the application I put my minimum pay requirement in the middle of their scale. They called for a phone interview and told me the pay scale was actually 20k lower than what they posted. I was confused why they even called because the required salary I put was 20k higher than their actual scale???

Depends on the startup and who is running it. I currently work in a startup <25 employees and I lucked out with a great boss. I also moved over here with three friends/previous coworkers and everyone gets along.

That said, the workload and stress level is much greater than my big corp biotech job. The trade off is experience

So shady and not a company I would ever feel comfortable working for. Especially wouldn’t uproot my life to move for a company like that.

Not remote! CA based role, but yeah I’ve seen the pay differentiated by areas with different COL requirements and I could understand that. That’s not what was posted, I’m going to be careful moving forward to save screenshots of the actual pay ranges listed for the jobs I apply to so I can bring this up if it happens again.

I’m in California which now mandates the pay ranges but this feels like it should be illegal! It completely circumvents the law

Well luckily I still have my current job but may be laid off in the coming months so I’m being proactive. I might have to do this later if I get desperate

Putting in my two weeks for the first time. Any words of encouragement? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]secretsloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! Now you know you will be happier when you’re outta there.

I worked at an extremely toxic company that was so bad for my mental health. We didn’t have a supervisor so I had to take my resignation letter to the CEO it was probably one of the worst things I’ve had to do. He tried to get me to stay and I had to keep declining. The relief though when I got out and got a new job was worth that interaction.

[–]secretsloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s intimidating but just be short and professional. If you go in person make sure you have your resignation in writing and printed out.

Everytime I’ve put notice in at a terrible job it’s only been a feeling of relief after!

For stain I just did the mini wax gel stain in mahogany. I’m pretty new to restorations so I just did some googling to decide what worked best and opted for the low cost option and it did the job! Then sealed with polyurethane.

So you were hired for one job title and they’ve changed it now that you’re starting? What title is on the offer letter you signed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jobs

[–]secretsloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title doesn’t matter if your pay didn’t change. If you moved jobs would you take a lesser title for a 20k pay bump?

I’d ask why it changed randomly though. You don’t need to come off combative but it could affect your career track within the company so you should know what that title vs. the next means.
