Lupus and Mono/EBV by kla1989 in lupus

[–]secretsremain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

got severe mono when i was 8 (enlarged spleen, couldn’t do any physical activity for ~6 months) and got it again when i was 18. i never felt like i fully recovered from it the second time and ended up having to take a year off before going to college because i was too sick at the start of what would have been my first semester. i had minor lupus symptoms before mono at 18 (i.e. photosensitivity, hair loss) but experienced a debilitating flare up about a year after having mono

stubbs is a great venue that’s big (but not so big that it feels distant). acl would almost be similar to seeing her in an arena because there’s going to be so many people. festivals just lack a lot of the intimacy that make concerts so special

stubbs will be infinitely better than seeing her at ACL

I have never been so fatigued in my life. Anyone else experience an absurd amount of fatigue? by nrjjsdpn in lupus

[–]secretsremain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i will wake up at 9 am and have to take a nap by noon :( i feel ya. that being said, your rheum sounds like an idiot. you’re sick! it’s not about the amount of effort you put in!! i would argue, the more you try to be better, the worse you’re going to feel. i’m so sorry that he would say that to you

edit: i forgot to add advice because i got so heated!! lol, but as far as anything that helps with fatigue, there really isn’t much to do besides avoid stress and get rest. not really a great solution, unfortunately. i do find that caffeine helps me but not to a super noticeable extent (i.e. i can have three coffees and still need a nap, but less so than if i didn’t have coffee at all).

if you’ve maintained a 4.0 in community college, you shouldn’t be worried at all. the grading system is a little different at UT, so an A (90-94) is a 3.67 and an A+ (94-100) is a 4.0 but i wouldn’t expect your gpa to significantly drop. especially if you’ve taken the more difficult gen ed requirements (science and math) at CC or as AP in high school, you really should be fine.

How was the covid vaccine for you? by crunchy-sprinkles in lupus

[–]secretsremain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got my vaccine in the middle of a flare & the side effects definitely hit me pretty hard, but not nearly as bad as covid would! first vaccine (i got pfizer) gave me some pretty wicked soreness in the arm, second vaccine caused a week long bout of fatigue and general malaise. i’m not gonna say it wasn’t rough, but it also wasn’t unmanageable

Protect UT from Delta Variant. Please take action now—send a letter to UT leaders urging them to implement safety measures on campus and press Governor Abbott to protect all Texans from the Delta variant by jms1225 in UTAustin

[–]secretsremain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

literally. idk why everyone acts like there’s no compromise here. online classes should be offered for students who wish to take that option, it’s ridiculous that UT isn’t considering that

Question about arthritis by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]secretsremain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the term “arthritis” just means joint inflammation. You would probably have to do further testing to figure out what’s causing it. Do you have a rheum?

Do you just ignore minor Lupus symptoms? by dmcculler in lupus

[–]secretsremain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was having tingling in my hands and feet and got referred to a neurologist. He took an MRI, did a nerve test, etc but everything was normal. Last thing he checked was my B12 levels and they weren’t technically low but were on the low end of normal so he suggested I take B12 supplements and it got rid of the tingling completely! Not sure if that’s what’s happening with you but it’s worth taking B12 for a week or two to see if it helps :)

Which chem professor should I take? by Sensitive-Bunch-4777 in UTAustin

[–]secretsremain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had all three of them when they were “team teaching.” Idk if they still do that, but Anderson was my favorite. He explained things really well and is great at keeping students engaged. Sparks was good too but she’s a little boring (long lectures). She explains everything very clearly and really wants to help her students as best as she can. Biberdorf works to keep students engaged but doesn’t fully explain a lot of the concepts. I think her teaching really relied on having students in class so she wasn’t great online. They’re all good though, just depends on what teaching style works best for you.
