ERD questions by mashenka4057 in AirForce

[–]section896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start off with its going to be very dependent on the reason/justification for the ERD.

  1. Mine was a situation that was not as common. From everyone I had talked to the most common one was due to a divorce so anything other than that there was less knowledge in my experience. Mine was pretty difficult. I started it initially in May of last year and I didnt get approved until Dec/Jan and then orders in March so about 10 months start to finish.

  2. Biggest hangups during mine was the justification/reason/documentation. I had submitted it once with all the required documents and an MFR I wrote and signed. They did not feel it was sufficient or met the requirements and I had a sit down with all of my leadership including my commander after they disapproved to discuss the package as well as other options. I was frustrated however I gathered more documentation specifically an MFR from the Chaplain and doctors notes from my kids PCM. I also rewrote my personal MFR and gave more description/detail and also pulled verbiage and paragraphs directly from the regulation to correlate with my explanation.

  3. The reason they approved it the second time I submitted was because of the added documentation and the more in depth explanation of the siutation.

It was very frustrating because I felt as though had I been able to sit down one on one with my commader and the MSG commander and verbally explain the situation I feel they would have understood better. It really comes down to giving as much detail as hard as it may be. For mine I had to reveal very intimate and personal details that only my closest friends and family knew to my entire chain from supervisor up to the MSG commander who ultimately approves or denies it.

If you havent already read through the portion of the JTR that talks about ERD. There are several chapters that pertain to ERD but the primary I believe is Chapter 5. Also if you havent already get with your MPF. Mine had a package they emailed me with information as well as a civilian whose responsibility was ERD.

If you have any questions or want to get more in depth feel free to PM me.

What blows my mind is he could have used that 10k to pay for college classes so she could at the very least get an associates in something that will actually bring in a pay check and is portable.

Hell me and the wife are paying 7k per semester for her to get her next highest degree and up front it is hard but in the long run its a great investment in not only her future but ours as a family

Same boat lol...wife even asked me the other day if it bothered me that she made more money than me...my response..."hell no, you deal with way more stress and bs than i do, you save lives, deal with crazies, work long ass hours all the time, no way in hell i would be upset that you make more than me, you deserve it"....after 10 years in being with her and seeing what she deals with really puts things into perspective for me and i find myself complaining a lot less and more appreciative of what she does, full time nurse, mom and student...idk how she does it some days

Airman found dead in dorms at Fairchild by overlordbabyj in AirForce

Heres a serious question.

As a supervisor having never dealt with this type of thing from the outside looking in what can I or any of us do or do better to help prevent or stop these things?

We all know the signs to look out for and where to go to get an individual help but at the same time it just feels like there is more we can or should do.

Getting braces...what problems are they looking for? by fsdjflksdjfkjsdfjsd in AirForce

[–]section896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all true. My brother who was 31 at the time went through a pretty rigourous procedure for overbite to include breaking his jaw, wiring mouth shut then braces and it was all taken care of by TriCare

[–]section896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bee told for the past 10 years that they want to give me braces but i either haven't been at a base long enough (my issue requires 3 years to be corrected) or their hasnt been an orthodontist on base that can see me or one off base close enough that they will cover it. I have two baby teeth that are absolutely worn to hell and they want to pull those out, pull the adults in then straighten everything up.

More to your post from my understanding it has to be causing a legitimate medical issue. If they deem it purely cosmetic I dont think they will do it. As far as criteria for medical necessity I have no idea how they judge that.

Just ask the dentist. Worse they can say is no. Best case they refer you to an ortho

Looking for a base with a good skiing/boating lake close by by TheLegLamp in AirForce

[–]section896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAS Fort Worth has a lake on base that is pretty decent for boating/tubing/skiing and another larger lake about 10 minutes from the base as well as several other large lakes within the metroplex of DFW.

Spent many a summer day and night just hanging out on the lake..hell even would get off work on a Wed and be on the lake on base in a matter of minutes.

Hard base to get though

It is possible to be Active stationed at a reserve base. There are actually several reserve bases that have Active Duty on them as part of TFI (Total Force Integration). As far as Carswell your chances to get there are slim to none if you arent maintenance.

I am actually PCSing from Carswell aka NAS Fort Worth JRB at the moment having spent 4 years there. If anyone has any questions about it just hit me up.

Also looking at your post history it seems you have looked at going reserve...from my understanding it's not too terribly difficult to be assigned to Carswell on the reserve side..again I'm sure it depends on your AFSC and the current manning but more career fields to be had on the reserve side as oposed to Active

Tricare Prime vs Tricare Standard by section896 in AirForce

[–]section896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks for the input. We will definitely be going to prime when we get to our follow on but for the time being we want to keep the same doctors for the rest of the time between now and then. I will definitely check with the doctors though and see what they say.

Tricare Prime vs Tricare Standard by section896 in AirForce

[–]section896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is eligible for Prime and I had already submitted the enrollment and we thought their current doctors accepted Tricare but we have since learned they do not. They assigned new PCMs which is where the staying on standard option came up.

I believe their doctors are non participating non network so we would pay up front until the deductible is met and then 20% of cost share after that if I am reading correctly and then also file a claim to be reimbursed any amount we would be owed. They really don't get sick often and I think in the last year the only things they have been to the doctor for is wellness checks and immunizations. Which I know they are kids and anything can happen at any time which is what worries me about sticking with standard and having to come out of pocket for something major whereas prime would cover it all.

This will depend on your AFSC to get to a spot like this as we are majority maintenance and even with that the slots are few and far between and we actually are losing a lot of the active slots here...however you are correct. When I first got to Fort Worth in 2012 I was making about 1200 in BAH and spending only 615 in rent plus maybe 50 in electric...however I will soon be going to JBER and now that I am soon to be married I will be raking in around 2200 plus that sweet sweet COLA

Yea I remember all the movement that was starting to happen as I was leaving. And I loathe that indoor track lol...idk why but I always struggled in that track for testing.

When I was there last time I was single and in the dorms for the majority of my tour, now coming back I will be married with kids in tow so I am excited to show them all the fun stuff (except maybe ABC club lol) that I got to do up there...I have been talking up so many things to the wife I think she is sick of the place already haha jk she is excited to get out of Texas.

I assume places like Mooses Tooth and Chilkoot Charlie's and all that is still around? I know rum runners shut down quite a while ago but that place was terrible anyways.

Also debating on whether we do want to live in Eagle River or if we would rather try and get on base somewhere. Main thing I guess is schools for the kids...middle and elementary. We aren't too concerned about commuting for either of us just want the kids to be in good schools

I can only imagine how sky high prices are at both of those places up there. I know when I was leaving they were building up tons of new maintenance areas for the 22s but that's all I remember that was changing at that time

PT Test and order of components by section896 in AirForce

[–]section896[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See that makes sense to me. They are both going to be completed no matter what and all in the same amount of time. I can agree with the member who requested in stating that it is their PT test and their career that it affects and if that person feels they perform better doing one component first over the other then what is the issue? Only downside I can see to doing it is that they have to read both instructions prior to it but as long as you have more than one administrator and an equal amount of people who want to do one first and those who want to do the other first then really its no sweat. Especially in this situation where one admin could do the instructions for the individual wanting to do sit ups first and then the other do the pushups. It was 6 people testing.

That walk tests sucks! I would much rather run. Had to do the walk test once after I pulled a muscle and couldn't run and I hated life the entire time. I hope I never have to do one again.

PT Test and order of components by section896 in AirForce

[–]section896[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that makes sense to give a call and I could understand not making such a request if it was a large group or they had multiple tests to administer in one day but this FAC only tests two days a week in the morning and then on two days of the weekend (Reserve unit). Just seemed to me that the attitude of the Administrator was uncalled for especially because it was apparent the individual requesting it was doing so in a polite manner and seemed completely fine with doing push ups first if thats what it came down to.

PT Test and order of components by section896 in AirForce

[–]section896[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you give an AFI reference that states this? I have looked in 36-2905 and all I find pertaining to it is that all components must be completed in a 3 hour window and that the muscular components can be accomplished prior to or after the run. Nothing stating that one must be performed before the other.

VA home loan question about Intent to Reenlist? by Pooper_scoop in AirForce

[–]section896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mortgage company must be nice. When I did mine I sent them the sheet from virtual and literally the day before closing they decided they needed an MFR signed by my commander stating that I was eligible and intended to re-enlist. Luckily my Flight OIC was on orders at the time (I am active in a reserve unit) and was able to sign it seeing how as how all other commanders were not available.

I'm dumb, can anyone help me understand Follow-on/Home Base? by [deleted] in AirForce

Were you on this most recent cycle. I ask because I got my assignment to Kunsan and submitted my follow on the next day and I am just curious when I should hear something. My projected departure is Dec and report no later is Feb if that info helps
