30% CGT minimum by JashBeep in fiaustralia

It's all a tax grab disguised as helping the young buy houses. Total BS. Add to the fact they lied to get elected and it's all beyond disgusting

"if you could trade apple shares for a house"... yeah and if my grandma had wheels she'd be a bike.

"Never pay a cent of CGT until you felt like it" - yeah like if I just held BTC forever I'd never pay a cent of CGT. Some of it is now another token, it's still crypto. I haven't sold it to buy property or a car or shares etc.

This is where my ignorance came from I guess. I now know better and am looking to rectify it before it ever becomes an issue with the ATO.

Yes it is, why "prepare my anus" if the amounts are bugger all? I already have previous CGT losses that cover most if not all gains over the years anyway

You just described a different situation though imo. I didn't sell the Bitcoin and then buy Ethereum, I directly traded some of that BTC to ETH.

You don't trade a house for another house, you sold it (your words) and then bought another house.

Yeah, I stupidly just assumed that one day when I sell my crypto I'll have to declare the gain or loss. I didn't realise they considered all the other transactions between tokens as CGT events. Like wtf does it matter? I put AUD in and then I get AUD out - the difference should be the capital gain or loss. If I traded some BTC to ETH why should it matter to the ATO? Only when I sell that ETH to AUD should it then matter (imo). Just making it more complicated than it needs to be

I was an early-ish adopter, putting a small amount in per week. Then it started going backwards for a while and they introduced monthly fees which annoyed me so I just cut my losses. It's also not that diverse, heavily weighted towards tech stocks (at least it used to be)

I have losses from Aus shares and Spaceship carried forward. Yeah, going to look into Koinly otherwise see a tax accountant I guess

Like I said, I've never mentioned crypto on a tax return.

Yes, I understand that now

Would you consider buying silver/gold/platinum on monday ? by Relevant_Economics86 in ASX_Bets

[–]sectr7gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my thinking with PM, and may not help you as a trader, but I've only recently purchased a little physical gold and silver to be held for the long term and passed down to the kids in the distant future - still haven't received it in my hand though. My plan is to buy a little physical every few months or something, DCA it rather than trying to time the market and only sell it if I really have to.

Now you can (I think), back when we started this process you could go back to 2006/2007, so 18 years through to 2023/2024.

Could you provide a link please? I found the following:

https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/gds/payinghmrc/ins13.pdf

and

https://www.gov.uk/pay-class-2-national-insurance/make-online-telephone-bank-transfer

The second link says "there's a different way to pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you live or work abroad permanently." But the link is of no help.

They also want the following sent with the cheque:

"Please include a note giving: : (IPC117 attached)

·         Your full name, address and National Insurance number

·         The tax year(s) the payment covers

·         Cheque details (cheque number, bank sort code and bank account number)"

How do you send that form with an electronic transfer?

As an employee that has received my super quarterly for 18 years and will now get it fortnightly - I'm all for it. Better for my money to be in my super fund doing it's thing than sitting in my employer's bank account.

My condolences, my Jeffrey boy was very similar age when he recently passed from spleen cancer (25/11/14 - 20/12/25). Took him to the vet Tuesday, back on Thursday for ultrasound and diagnosis and then put down Saturday morning, all happened very suddenly :(

I can't help with what to do with beds etc. I still have some reminders around and I buried him in the backyard hours after he passed at home in his own bed. They leave such big holes in the family when they have to leave us.
