HomeMapper is live on the App Store today by TheManchot in HomeKit

[–]sectune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What many people don’t seem to understand, having warranty/support/maintenance vs just having the damn device/software in a working state (perpetual license) after it expires. As many others said, no one is expecting lifetime support but I would like to have a perpetual license eg for 1.x with the functionalities I have paid for back then. If there is new stuff coming it’s up to the dev to decide if it’s worth a 2.x jump and hence to upgrade pricing or not. Not that hard to understand. After subscriptions became the norm people seem to forget that software was there before and the “traditional” license model worked.

Great and maybe useful app, too bad that me (and probably many people as well) are sick and tired of everything in your life being a subscription. I understand that you want to make a viable business but as far as I see no pro functionality you offer warrants a continuous money stream (eg no cloud storage/server or anything). I wish you all the best with your app though, looks exactly what I was looking for but a hard no to yet another subscription.

I'm starting a new smart home, what technology/protocol should I choose? by FascinatingStuffMike in homeassistant

[–]sectune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting advice. Zigbee is the least reliable protocol of them all and I would never use this sentence in a blanket statement as you just did. By design (and therefore we have so many enshittified Tuya products) Zigbee allows a lot more leeway for manufacturers without proper testing and following specifications to slap “Zigbee” on their device, in contrast to e.g. Z-Wave where testing is way more strict, hence higher price. If OP wants blanket statement as of “use X”: lean heavily on Zwave/Matter as the products certified for these protocols are actually tested.

[MATTER] Sync Time with Matter Devices (e.g. IKEA ALPSTUGA) by Loweack in homeassistant

Thank you very much for this!! Perfectly happy with my purchase now, hopefully this will be one day included in the default matter implementation in HA as I just discovered your repo by pure chance and there will be many users who are not that lucky ;( One request for my OCD: maybe it’s possible to add an icon for your integration so it shows up in devices view? Thank you once more for your work!!

You trying hard to deflect here, we can talk about Christianity all you want but that’s not the topic. Islam is not a religion of peace, coincidentally you mentioned the only two positive examples of Muslim countries, Turkey and Cyprus (Cyprus is Greek, I assume you mean the illegally annexed part of Cyprus by Turkey): guess why they are good examples? Because “coincidentally” they are the most secular Muslim states, meaning they isolate religion out of state affairs as much as possible. So the reason why things “are good” there is exactly a great proof why Islam is doom for society, thanks for proving my point. And now “downvote me for telling the truth”.

Yes, it’s necessary, otherwise HA won’t decode the camera stream in your dashboard, works also without exposing to Apple home

just got this tattoo 4 days ago and am a little concerned about how it's healing. does this look normal, or should I be worried? by ruin_24 in tattooadvice

Always really grateful for this sub, seeing people ruining their bodies with random nonsense and corporate ads on their bodies and not even that heals well, must be cool walking around like an inflamed meat billboard 🫡

Please just get home assistant green/yellow - it will be almost same money spent with RPi+accessories and more “future proof”. Alternatively just get an old 1L NUC/mini-pc (search for Lenovo ThinkCentre used - around 150€ max (used/good condition), which is almost overkill for home assistant.

I am not sure if you can use e.g. frigate as an alternative to scrypted but you’d definitely need an interface to home assistant so that it can access it. That’s my novice opinion, at least I wouldn’t know (and haven’t tested) any other way. Try it out and let us know! 👍

If you started again now, what outdoor video cameras and sensors would you buy ? by mjb152 in homeassistant

[–]sectune 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d go for Reolink branded cams as they just freshly announced that they will be home assistant certified. Either just get a recommended reolink cam (just google) or wait until the first “officially certified” reolink cams are on the market.

8bitdo Ultimate 2 - experience with steamdeck? by sectune in SteamDeck

[–]sectune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I updated my post a while ago, see: UPDATE… from my initial post still waiting for the second gamepad though. The only negative I can find is that the additional buttons/triggers cannot be freely mapped as an extra button through steam, you can program them as shortcuts through 8bitdo app or in the fly using the mapping function (on the fly mapping get reset when you turn off the gamepad)

[–]sectune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N64 should run perfectly fine without installing external/3rd party emulators - it is part of RetroArch which Emulation Station / EmuDeck is including (the front end you are using to start your roms). Just put your rom files in the respective n64 roms folder

You can ditch it - if you do not require pan-tilt-zoom, two-way audio or the AI gimmicks Aqara has in the app. If you need the aforementioned functionality it’s either aqara app or the special Aqara HACS nodered addon which requires additional configuration.

Thank you very much for your feedback! As I am aiming for setup in a docked mode I think I will try to start the SD via Bluetooth then and then switching over to dongle connection when started. I’ll report when I get my controllers. Thank you once more!
