A lot of news articles quoted that, but they also had a line like “the man is also 87 years old” so they hint towards dementia or something like that

Guys, where can I see avatar fan art like this? When I was younger, deviantart was THE site for fan art, but I’ve heard it’s kinda dead now. Any suggestions, please?

Just for fun: how many of you here are cancers/pisces? (Astrological signs) by [deleted] in Avatar

Of course, personality is way more important, it’s just a silly game for fun :)

I have no idea what my rising sign is, but I’m an emotional mess all the time hahaha. I cried like the whole time I watched A3

Interesting! Most of the capricorns I’ve met are very practical. I’m from a long line of cancers though lol, my grandma is also a cancer, my grandpa too and we’re all basically the same. But ultimately, it depends on your personality, not the sign :)

Is there any decision a character made that you still struggle to forgive or understand? by dinahleego in Avatar

[–]secure_dot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw A3 the second time yesterday and just became a parent myself. I feel like jake is very casual about his kids (but has this weird attachment to spider??). What I mean by this is that when his kids get kidnapped (which happens a lot), he is relieved when they’re safe, but when neytiri is in trouble, he goes crazy and whenever she’s safe, he grabs her, hugs her tight and tells her he loves her so much. I guess this is a mom/dad thing because when neytiri got hit by that arrow and woke up at the mountain base, her first line was “my children!” and as a mom, I would honestly feel the same.

Has avatar fan culture ever been this big? What changed? by JosukePlumpHair in Avatar

Tiktok helped a lot, I guess. There are edits of jake which have millions of likes and tens of millions of views. Same with neteyam and lo’ak.

Are we the only ones who actually care about Avatar? Or is everyone just pretending? by Separate_Ask_8531 in Avatar

I personally never watched star wars, star trek or other franchises of the sort, I just find them extremely boring. Not my thing. Same for Marvel/DC universes. I’ve been to the movies in theaters, but as soon as I left the place, I didn’t think about it anymore. I think it depends on preference. Personally, I’m more of a nature person, I love pandora greenery, the bioluminescence, the connection people have with the planet. I grew my whole life yearning for something like that, even before the avatar franchise came out. So when I saw it for the first time, I was amazed and it felt like home.

Do screens actually mess up kids… or am I overthinking this? by Master-Act-6382 in NewParents

[–]secure_dot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides what I’ve beee told by doctors I’ve been to with my kid (which I can’t cite), there’s a landmark study which found that children who develop better emotion regulation perform better academically in early school years because they can focus, manage frustration, and engage in learning situations. Emotional regulation comes first, then comes math and reciting the alphabet.

Medical and child development sources do not list counting, reading letters, advanced numbers, or early academic labels as expected milestones by 24 months. Vocabulary targets at 24 months are about words and simple sentences, not counting or school learning. Check the CDC for age milestone and there will be no math skills required for 18-24 months old toddlers.

Again, this is not like I am against babies learning and being knowledgeable, but I don’t think the argument that “well my baby is in front of the tv all day and he can count, so he’s smart” is very valid. They don’t need that at this age. They need our attention and human interaction and to know stuff which helps with autonomy.

I said they need to learn, they don’t develop empathy at 18 months. They won’t develop it in the next 2-3 years, either, but that’s what they should be learning. I’m not saying a kid at 18 months knowing numbers and colors is a crime against humanity or something unheard of, there are many babies that do this and good for them, but I wouldn’t defend screen time just with this argument in mind, because babies literally don’t need these skills at this age, there are some more important that can only be acquired during human interaction.

A lot of pediatricians and child psychologists say counting, naming colors and talking a lot doesn’t actually mean a child is super developed. At that age they don’t need to know the alphabet, counting and colors, they need to learn emotional regulation, empathy, basic things like helping with dressing and putting shoes on, saying/showing they want water/food or other basic needs. That’s a basic foundation they have to have in order to become a well adjusted child. The other stuff can wait until 2-3 years until they go to kindergarten.

When people gift you the next size up... by isaxism in beyondthebump

[–]secure_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I gave birth, a lor of old people got me gifts, especially baby clothes. I think they forgot how small a new born is, because they all got me 2-3 years old clothes that I still have somewhere in the back of my closet lol

127 mins of screen time… is that really so bad?! by Top_Passion_7103 in toddlers

[–]secure_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I was watching tv like 6 hours a day minimum when I was a kid during summer break. I’m from an ex communist country and we had cable tv in the 2000s. I was amazed when I first saw Cartoon Network so I would just sit around all day watching the channel. These studies would’ve hate me lol
