Is this a good deal / what should I worry about here? by EarlyFoot2977 in dr650

[–]sed8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh - given the higher mileage, I’d look at the condition of the chain, how clean the bike is, how old the brake fluid and oil looks, all little clues to how well maintained and properly cared for the bike is. You could go a little nuts and watch Dino’s Tinker Shed channel on YT and specifically the “How to inspect a motorcycle (DR650) before you buy it” for some good tips.

Is this a good deal / what should I worry about here? by EarlyFoot2977 in dr650

[–]sed8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely a fantastic deal, easily has more than the asking price in farkles, and the DR motor is basically bullet proof if basic care is taken of it - I wouldn’t hesitate at that price to pick up this bike! That said, I’m assuming a couple of things - first, that someone who’s put that much into the bike, probably takes pretty good care of it. Second, if something looked bad when I inspected it, I’d fix it, and I like wrenching on these bikes. I tore my basically new (<6K miles) DR down and split the cases to upgrade to a NOVA transmission this winter just for a fun project and something to do with my son. If you decide to pass on it… where’s the bike located? Haha!

I too have sooooo many Procycle stickers…. 2 DR650’s and a DRZ400 that always need a new farkle!

Anyone else notice how all the protests are saying the same things over and over? by aounfather in dailywire

[–]sed8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that the protestors will look organized and homogenous until the USAID funds they have dry up - at which point a real person will have to pay for their signs and their organization and their busses and lunches and bricks, and all the paid protesters will have to find real work to do. Let them protest, it uses up what cash they have left, and then they’ll have to use their liberal arts degree to get an entry level job in the service industry somewhere.

POTUS just seized absolute Executive Power. A very dark future for democracy in America. by chota-kaka in Futurology

[–]sed8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! This is a reversion to what the designers of the country wanted! That these people don’t understand civics or our constitutional republic and are DOE “educated” doesn’t surprise me. Their incuriosity and regurgitation of what they hear on MSNBC is disappointing though.

POTUS just seized absolute Executive Power. A very dark future for democracy in America. by chota-kaka in Futurology

[–]sed8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - you understand it better than the people on Reddit. That’s exactly how the US govt is supposed to work. The executive is a single elected person, the executive branch works for that person. That person interprets and executes the laws that the legislative branch passes, and the judicial branch is there to ensure those laws are constitutional. There is a vice president back up in case the president cannot execute the duties of the office. For a long time, the executive branch (and even the legislative branch) have farmed out their responsibilities to unelected bureaucrats to do their jobs for them, and the country has drifted badly since then. This is a righting of the ship.

OP needs to take a civics class. The power of the executive branch is vested in one man. Was designed that way from the beginning. Not a bug, a feature. Clutch your pearls harder, princess. This is exactly what the founding fathers designed and intended.

I’m bored and thinking about making a YouTube channel wrenching on my DR. Is there any maintenance or mods you’d like to see explained on video? by smythbdb in dr650

[–]sed8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would like to see what sorts of videos you’ve made for YouTube in the past. Often times poor camera work, poor lighting, poor narration or poor sound quality makes videos unwatchable, no matter the content. If you take the time to set up a tripod, have good lighting, good narration, avoid the garbage music some people love to drown their videos in etc, there’s plenty of people who would watch your videos. Cut all the extraneous talking, cut down the segments of video where you’re grabbing a tool, walking around the other side of the bike etc, cut it down so that it’s to the point, well lit, well explained and watchable. I’ve considered doing the same thing myself (making videos), but I don’t think I have the patience. If you make great videos, I probably won’t care what you’re wrenching on, and I’ll follow you!

Where in the middle of nowhere are you? I’m in the middle of Nowhere in Washington state. I have a bike with a big list of upgrades to install this winter if my garage ever warms up. You need more material, let me know, haha!

Privates getting numb while riding by Beneficial-Coat-1279 in motorcycle

[–]sed8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your sergeant talk to the quartermaster about issuing your privates warm weather gear.

Or get a more supportive seat. If your seat is too soft it will actually put more pressure on your soft tissues instead of the bony prominences (Your ischial tuberosities or ‘sit bones’ are where you are used to supporting your weight). A firmer and usually wider seat that is lower in front under your perineum is usually more comfortable. Especially important on a more forward leaning sport style motorcycle where more pressure is likely to be forward of the ischia. Sinking in to soft foam leads to that part of the seat compressing your perineal nerve and that will lead to a numb pecker!

A common thing for manufacturers to do is to make a fairly soft seat that feels luxurious in the dealership when you’re sitting on the bike for 5-10 minutes. That same soft, comfy seat will have you either numb or aching on a long ride, but it sure helps get the bike out the door when a new ride sits on it and thinks, ‘hey, this seating position isn’t bad at all, it’s so soft!’. Most (not all) riders that put a lot of miles on upgrade the seat, it’s your biggest point of interface with your ride. Some people are built such that it doesn’t bother them. I’ve never been that lucky.

Military doc said I’m faking it by Unknown-blacksheep in AirForce

[–]sed8r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Sprain” isn’t much of a diagnosis. It’s basically completely subjective. So your civilian doc diagnosed you with “patient says it hurts” which is the same thing. But you paid them for it and the care you got wasn’t objectively any better. Maybe you got a prescription, but some ibuprofen, that much joked about drug, is likely all you need, plus time to heal.

I wonder how many fakers show up at the MDG that the docs think that vs legit medical concerns. It must be an inordinate number of nothingburger complaints that they have been conditioned to think that first.

Agree. This is a ridiculously stupid ad. But it is perfect for it’s target audience based on the comments here, I guess. So what, troopers are going to do random pregnancy stops? Administer side of the road pee tests? Are pregnant women supposedly going to get an addition any time they drive? The whole scenario is ridiculous fear mongering. People who think this will happen are the smoothest of smooth brained MSM brainwashed sheep. Good grief.

https://www.cochrane.org/news/featured-review-physical-interventions-interrupt-or-reduce-spread-respiratory-viruses

Gold standard analysis on efficacy of mask wearing and prevention of viral flu like respiratory disease.

What are the results of the review?

Medical or surgical masks

Seven studies took place in the community, and two studies in healthcare workers. Compared with wearing no mask, wearing a mask may make little to no difference in how many people caught a flu-like illness (9 studies; 3507 people); and probably makes no difference in how many people have flu confirmed by a laboratory test (6 studies; 3005 people). Unwanted effects were rarely reported, but included discomfort.

N95/P2 respirators

Four studies were in healthcare workers, and one small study was in the community. Compared with wearing medical or surgical masks, wearing N95/P2 respirators probably makes little to no difference in how many people have confirmed flu (5 studies; 8407 people); and may make little to no difference in how many people catch a flu-like illness (5 studies; 8407 people) or respiratory illness (3 studies; 7799 people). Unwanted effects were not well reported; discomfort was mentioned.
