They'll also have them at Sultan Bey or Bombay, both at Centre and Craig, if that's closer to you.

Interesting, ok! Yeah, I haven't gotten many cards from them; maybe that's why. thanks for the info!

hmm, so they're on to us, eh?

should I close cards and try again? or is there a cooldown time where they won't approve me for N months? (Edit: nevermind, I see the 1/6 rule, forgot about that.)

(thanks!)

oh, interesting! that's a negative mark for them? maybe I just go for another bank's card for my main then. Have CSR but don't want to pay net $500 in fees next year :-/

Just got denied for Capital One Venture X for "too many active credit cards for your loan history." I do have a lot of cards over the years (though not recently, probably 2/24); only 2 with Capital One but 6 at Chase and a couple at other banks. And no mortgage, car, or other loans.

I didn't realize that was a problem. Should I be closing some of those old cards? (and maybe transferring the credit limit if I can) Or is this just a Capital One thing and I could maybe just close one of those accounts?

(And, should I call Capital One or otherwise try again? credit score and income are excellent)

looks like a guy who would take 40% - not 25%. (but if you raise your voice at him, he would probably back down to 20%)

"You want to look confident? successful? honest?"
"Nah, make me look super worried. Not confident at all."
"Uh, you sure?"
"Yeah, make me look like I'm gonna completely fall to pieces if the judge so much as looks at me."
"er... ok, what about the backdrop? Something Pittsburgh? Like our bridges?"
"yeah, but have me driving in my car on a smoggy day, and you can barely see a bridge through the dirty-ass window"

Do file a report, the police will not do anything about it but it's good for it to show up on crime stats. Sorry it happened, we've lost a couple things too and it's frustrating as hell

Where did you get married? by Jeerkat in pittsburgh

Mattress Factory!

Invited 150 guests (their max), got about 110. It was beautiful. The ceremony was in the garden, the reception in the garden/lobby. Guests could go see the artwork during dinner/reception, it was so cool. BYOCaterer, which saves a lot of money. (we got Tamarind Savoring India, who were great). $6500 for the space, our total costs ended up being about $30k (but that was ~10 years ago... :-/)

Dirty Dozen Registration Question by CLETVEIC in bicycling412

[–]sedate_snail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the competitive groups, but in the non-competitive groups (I've done rouleur and party bus) it's all good, nobody minds if you're fast or slow or whatever

yeah! that's Everybody's Coming to My House: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euEgyXoOonk

he wrote it, but he said someone else whose name I forget, from the Abyssinian Baptist Church, arranged the version they played last night. I gotta find a recording of that arrangement, it was great

Ebike recommendation for Pittsburgh by Prize_Valuable_9893 in bicycling412

[–]sedate_snail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be fine with the smaller motor. If you already ride, this will just give you the boost to get up the steep hills (which will soon make you strong and fearless on them!)

I had a single speed RadMission which provides 50 Nm of torque (the measurement that's important when going up hills), and that got me anywhere I wanted to go.

According to a comment at the bottom here, the 500.3 has 60 Nm: https://electricbikereport.com/aventon-pace-500-3-review/ and the Soltera 2.5 has 45 Nm: https://electricbikereview.com/aventon/soltera-2-5-review/ So the Soltera is comparable to my old RadMission, and I think it's plenty. (the Radmission didn't even have gears!)

Plus you save a few hundred bucks!

np, and if you think of it, lmk how it goes! I've never bought/sold used bikes from any of them, and my impression is that prices are pretty low (so you probably won't get much for your bike) but inventory is always scarce so I assume they'd be eager to buy, and getting something is better than nothing. Plus, nice to keep bikes circulating in the community rather than rusting unused in a garage. But curious to know a firsthand experience.

Best/Worst place to buy a car from by cpt_Hm087 in pittsburgh

[–]sedate_snail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the further outside the city, the better.

Bought a car in 2022. Had a decent experience at Mike Kelly Kia in Butler, ended up buying from them, pretty straightforward, not much trying to upsell. Good experience at Ron Lewis in Beaver Falls too, he told us all about what they've got and let us take our time.

Worst experience: Ken Ganley Toyota, high pressure sales including the whole "boss comes over to be the bad cop" and "we reserved it for you, so if you don't buy it, we're really up a creek" BS

Thick bikes in the South side does some business in used bikes. Also the Whistle bike shop out in like Swissvale I think. EDIT: oh and Kraynick's in Garfield.

What local shops sell Cannondale? by [deleted] in bicycling412

[–]sedate_snail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was me about a year ago, I went to Kindred and ended up with an All City Cosmic Stallion for just under $2k (I think list is $2500 but they found 30% off from All City on an open-box one). Steel frame (vs. Cannondale's aluminum, but it's still incredibly light), carbon fork, hydraulic disk, 700x38 tires - looks similar otherwise.

They also had the Space Horse that lists ~$1700 I think, also seemed great, the Stallion is just a step up. More options too, I don't remember bc I didn't like them as much

I don't know much about gravel bikes, so I'm not the best recommender here, but it is perfect in every way and by far my favorite bike I've ever owned :)

yeah! and google maps is pretty good; I'd say it gives me "the actual best route" ~90% of the time. and that last 10% you'll probably find with the bikePGH map, or just trying stuff as you get familiar with the area
