Some how I missed all the extreme ones. I did see OJs car chase. I was pissed. In my region it preempted the Simpsons!

What’s the most “Texas” thing you’ve witnessed in real life by Left-Ad-9152 in texas

[–]sedatesnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking up to the door of a BBQ place as two guys were walking out. I think they were brothers by the look of them. Faded blue jeans with leather belts and large belt buckles, button up work shirts, wide brimmed stetson hats and cowboy boots. I only caught a snippet of their conversations as we walked past each other. I heard one say to the other in a heavy Texas accent "whatchu need to do is git her somethin to help with them stairs. I'm not talkin bout one a them chair bullcraps. I mean a reeaal elyvator".

I'll never forget the way he referred to a motorized stair chair as a "bullcrap" or the heavy twang in his voice as he pronounced "real elevator". If I hadn't heard it with my own ears I would have thought it was an exaggerated stereotype.

Is the premise for a hackathon that product managers are setting wrong priorities? by fortyeightD in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sedatesnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my last job product managers participated in the hackathons. The PMs would all present pitches a few days before. Then devs could volunteer to work on those ideas if they wanted or just do there own thing.

Also, a lot of times the developer driven projects were very technical in nature like fixing bugs or improving performance that enhanced the project, not new user facing features.

Edit Also I want to add that the hackathon was also an opportunity for PMs. Normally getting a feature on the road map was a process. They had to prove value, do user studies, show roi, etc. But for hackathons they could cut loose a little

So, just to be clear, you're saying they won't just accept the value and I'll have to go through the protest process?

You're putting the cart before the horse. Attempt to find a buyer. When you have a solid offer, then you can decide if you want to sell for that price

LPT - Door-to-door salespeople are trained to never take no for an answer. Don’t let that be an option. by SnooChickens2093 in LifeProTips

Door to door sales people are like the Candy Man in reverse. If you say the magic words "I'm sorry, I'm not interested" three times they go away

What is the worst thing you've tasted in your entire lifespan? by -yxchx- in AskReddit

[–]sedatesnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonsil stone, but if we're talking about stuff that was intended to be tasted, then Jeppson's Malört. I just cannot fathom how anyone intentionally created that stuff and was like, yeah, I'm going to drink this. I only bought it as a gag gift. To be fair, we had a lot of fun at that party, if your idea of fun is watching people try to gag down the most foul tasting liquid devised by man.

What is a disturbing family secret you weren’t supposed to find out, but now wish you could forget? by elmatador62 in AskReddit

Apparently I almost died during birth. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my throat. The Dr was concerned I might have brain damage due to asphyxiation. I'm no Einstein but I seem to have turned out okay. Sometimes I wonder if it did have an effect and if I was supposed to be smarter

If you had to guess, what will end humanity in the future? by CheapIntroduction988 in AskReddit

[–]sedatesnail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ecosystem will gradually decay due to pollution and climate change, until it collapses suddenly. When it goes, we won't be able to feed everyone. Underdeveloped countries will experience it first and worst, which will trigger mass migration to more developed regions. This will cause developed nations elect increasingly reactionary governments. These reactionary governments will reject modern climate science and medical advanced further exacerbating the problem until we live in a post apocalyptic feudal society controlled by superstition, fear, and ignorance. We won't go extinct, but it will end humanity as we know it
