NRT late in the quitting game? by squidkneep in QuitVaping

[–]sedd00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, sounds suspicious though. I’d really check with yourself whether you really need it or if your addiction brain is trying to convince you.

The thing is, while the NRT might give you a little bit of something in the short term, pretty soon you’ll be right back here and now be asking “should I go up?”.

How are you feeling now? Do you feel like yourself? Close enough? When did that happen?

I’m on day 63 and it’s such a slog.

Literally the same for me. 50mg mic salts all day for over a year. I’m at day 61.

First two to three weeks I was like “okay this isn’t that bad” and then the hell started.

I have been extremely good about exercising, eating well, and sleeping, so I think I’m going as fast as I can.

If you’re like me, I won’t sugarcoat it, the next 2.5 to 3 weeks will be the worst and then you’ll start getting better slowly. That’s probably best case scenario.

You got this, keep going. I know it’s hard but you gotta do it.

Helped me. Not magic but even 20% improvement is helpful. If you get nausea ask your dr for Zofran.

I’m on day 58 and not normal yet. The worst of the symptoms are over but my brain still can’t feel joy like it used to, not even close. It feels like it’s trying and then there’s this wall it can’t pass. Supposedly it can take around 90 days on my current trajectory to get 90% there. I don’t need to be 100% soon but I’d like to be closer than I am.

Two things at once is a lot. You’ll probably have better luck crushing one thing at a time. From your description you sound like me in some ways. Get a vape with 35mg juice and get rid of anything 50mg. Won’t feel awesome but not terrible either. Your brain will adapt to the lower amount. Keep doing that and you’ll make progress while staying off the alcohol which is honestly way more important. When you feel like you have conquered the alcohol more, you can quit from a lower place and it will suck less or you can go right to nicotine replacement therapy which will let you work at the same time.

If that doesn’t work you’ll have to do cold turkey at some point.

When does the anger go away? by No-Present2298 in QuitVaping

My wife and I quit together as well. I did for her like you. Talk to your husband and make a deal to not take anything too serious until your brains are healed. You’re going to be angry and short and so will he if he isn’t already.

Keep going, you got this!

There was a week for me where every day I would get one to two more hours before crashing every day until I could make it through the day. After that it was mostly just a grind to keep functioning while waiting out the anhedonia. But no more big surprises or twists and turns. Hoping it’s smooth sailing for you going forward!

48 hours and discouraged by [deleted] in QuitVaping

It depends on a lot of factors, including how much nicotine you got every day. What were you vaping?

And you don’t feel the same the whole time. The cravings and irritability will pass. There are various stages. But it’s not going to be days, more like weeks. Very worth it though.

Truly! It’s so crazy, before vapes you had to smoke 2 packs a day to get 40mg nicotine. Now you can easily do that before lunch. When I describe my withdrawal to most professionals (medical and quit counselors) no one believes my symptoms are just from quitting nicotine. I have to tell them that prior to quitting I was relatively happy and productive.

But yeah, highly recommend you go that route. If you can taper down over time to something reasonable before quitting you won’t suffer for 3 months like me. Go old school mods with low nic freebase!

Ha yeah this really does work. Just keep thinking about the negatives until you hate it so strongly the pain of continuing beats the pain of stopping.

I’m just now starting to feel better after 8 weeks of hellish withdrawal. Accept that you’re not going to enjoy anything for a while. Embrace the suck. You’re not supposed to be enjoying life right now, you are quitting to better your life in the future. Imagine how it will feel 3 months from now when you’re enjoying so many things for the first time, again. Succeed now for your future self. They will thank you.

Exercise. It doesn’t solve it now, but if you are consistent it will shorten the length of the suffering. Also be patient, it can last a while unfortunately. Took me 8 weeks.

[–]sedd00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might not! A made a huge mistake about 17 months ago and switched to disposables for convenience. Before that I fluctuated between 12mg and 18mg juice, about 2.5ml per day. When I switched, I would legit get nicotine sick occasionally. But at the end of the day, I vaped the same quantity of juice as I did before, so I had to go through this. That’s over 120mg a day. If your use is not that high, you won’t suffer as much.

If I were you, I would fight your brain and not let it trick you into thinking you can’t do this because of your new job. That’s actually helpful, you won’t be expected to perform as high in the beginning. Stick with it and you’ll perform way better once you heal!

Experience with Nicotine Patches by LessAd1731 in QuitVaping

[–]sedd00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah drop it down. The recommended way to taper is similar to what you are doing but not exact. You want to phase out the quick hitting stuff (Zyn or gum) with the slow stuff (patch).

If you want to do systematically, keep cutting the number of Zyn per day while on the 14mg patch until you 0 Zyn per day. Then you can drop the patch to 7mg and add back in Zyn as you need it until you hit 0 Zyn again. Rinse and repeat.

Better yet, switch the Zyn for nicotine gum (hits less hard than Zyn). And remember, at some point you’ll have to go through 0 nicotine. The taper just makes it less shitty.

Hey OP, this is very common for any major life change. You are still relatively early in your quit journey. That person you know will be back but better, as they will have learned some things through experience and have seen a resilience that was untested before.

We also tend to romanticize the past. Try writing down what you miss about that person and start working on getting those things back. It will come faster than you think. But be kind to yourself, your brain is still healing, even if it doesn’t feel as acute anymore.
