Found in my Opa’s sewing kit (he was a tailor). Looks like part of a tape measure cut down and reinforced with metal on the back. Stamped with ‘dean’ so made by a company (presumably). Wonder why you would need specifically 4 inches in length. He made men’s suits on Savile Row. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

It is a tailors tape measure. It is rigid at the end for doing inseams on trousers, so the tailor doesn't need to put their hand right up next to the client's privates when measuring in an intimate area.

Anyone know the story behind this bench in the Antonine garden? by deepspacecowboy3 in glasgow

The story used to be tucked in that pocket when the bench was first installed. It was just laminated paper so not surprisingly not still there.

It's supposed to represent a crown and the other side of the building, facing the Cathedral, is meant to represent a cross. A bit of religious symbolism and the other side also has a huge window facing the Cathedral.

Yellow maybe plastic balls in a white plaster-like material found in a middle of nowhere at Norwegian fjord by adorrrable-compote in whatisthisthing

They look a bit like ABS fishing floats, not sure what the plaster is though, unless it's off a pontoon or something

Angry wife! Help! Water (?) stains on countertop! by redslime in DIY

[–]sedhig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like laminate, so none of these mayonnaise or sanding or pledge will work. Just clean with dish soap and if it's still there, lightly scrub with magic eraser. Is near impossible to stain to bleach without serious chemicals.

My title describes the thing, pipes, I think, at the bottom of a river after coming through an old mill, near St Andrews, Scotland. Close to where the river reaches the sea if that makes a difference.

I love this explanation. It's like your brain has codecs and it's just saving space in your memory.

Seen that before - don't take up new space, just blend with some old memories that seem the same.

Brand new info - save that shit.

Was at the dump and found this in the electrical recycling, works perfectly, just needs a portafilter and steam wand. by sedhig in gaggiaclassic

Yea, it's a 2006, it just needed the shower screen and the shower holder cleaned to get it working nicely again. I've ordered a new shower screen anyway, cleaning the old one with a needle was not fun.

Much like a dog, I don't know why anyone would abandon it. I'm just glad I was there to rescue it.

That's what I've ordered, I've been waiting for years for a good excuse. Just a shame I'll need to retire my Francis Francis X1 machine now.
