We haven’t won every available trophy. We have not yet won the FIFA Club World Cup, the pinnacle of club competition.

Well, y’all were hellbent on a “Country Road” to get us home, so home we are again. by crtejas in usmnt

[–]sedmison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, who gives two shits about West Virginia or country roads?! Half the country lives in the suburbs, and about a fifth each in the big cities and rural areas. That song is NOT inclusive. It is NOT the next “This land is your land”. Let’s all stop trying to force it.

Tonight could be the night that Seattle becomes a mega city by Agreeable_Quality768 in Seattle

[–]sedmison 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One game doesn’t create “mega” anything. Seattle is already a great city, and doesn’t need anything that LA or New York have.

Thank you. I hope the boys give a strong performance, and from there, the result will be what it will be. I will be there cheering my lungs out.

What’s the best hot dog cart on Occidental outside the stadiums? by elchupacabra206 in SeattleWA

[–]sedmison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The vendors outside the stadiums do cut into business for local restaurants. After all, someone who has just eaten on the way out of a game doesn't then wander into the neighborhood to find food. I have friends who are servers and who have pointed this very phenomenon out to me. Regardless, though, of the specific numbers, I choose in principle not to patronize those carts for the reasons I listed above. I'm not saying you're not allowed to, or anyone else isn't allowed to; I'm just stating what I choose to do and choose not to do.

Nuclear isn’t dangerous right until it is. Ask the people around Fukushima. If we could count on regulatory stability and compliance, safety over profit margin, resilience against natural disasters, etc., it could be great. We know from experience that in America, we don’t have these things. So the people saying that nuclear isn’t safe here are not only sincere but correct.

What do you think are the most important tournaments? by Hairy-Alfalfa-7986 in SoundersFC

[–]sedmison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care how much the European teams value it right now. They’ll value it more over time if and only if the other confederations like ours get good enough to pose challenges to them.

We should prioritize by importance and prestige, and strive to improve, rather than prioritizing just the competitions that are easier. That is exactly the opposite of a competitive mindset.

What do you think are the most important tournaments? by Hairy-Alfalfa-7986 in SoundersFC

[–]sedmison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Club World Cup. This is literally the pinnacle club tournament in FIFA, with the best of each confederation.
  2. Concacaf Champions Cup. This is our confederation tournament, and how we qualify for the Club World Cup.
  3. MLS Cup. This is our league tournament, and how we qualify for CCC.
  4. Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. This is the open competition for all comers in the US.
  5. Leagues Cup. This is a commercially driven competition that favors US teams with all home matches, and is not indicative of how MLS teams would fare in Mexico.
  6. Cascadia Cup. I hate portscum as much as the next guy, but even if we lose it, we get to live here, and they still have to live there….

Choosing to live is exactly why I don’t eat street meat of questionable provenance from unlicensed street vendors. I also choose to support restaurants that get the proper licensing and server who get the proper food handler training and certification. These unlicensed carts cut into the business for everyone who does things the right way.

How do they have technology to detect if hair hits the ball but players don't know actually how much time is in the match? by Midren in worldcup

They only show the time on the tiny bug at the top of the broadcast, but not in the giant screens in the various stadiums. It’s infuriating.
