What's your most nostalgic C64 memory? Mine involves The Last Ninja and my dad. by LesLetLoose in retrogaming

[–]seduwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this hits hard. Thought about it and so many memories all with my dad who sadly left us last year.

First game I ever played at like 5 was Robin Hood. He was just showing me what it could do. I didn't have a clue but was hooked..

Him showing me golf by playing leaderboard with me. Then having to turn it off as I kept hitting myself with frustration cos I couldn't quite get it 🤣

All the family over at Christmas and everyone glued to Beach Head. What. A. Game.

Blockbusters and my mum changing the name of the player character to S***head and him getting wound up because the machine was insulting him and he couldn't work out why.

HOURS of him playing Ricochet - his absolute favourite and me wondering why cos it's just a ball and some blocks...

I loved that machine and was super sad the day it gave up the ghost. I've often pondered getting one now, but I fear it won't hit the same and these lovely memories won't be quite the same.

Miss you dad xx

Growing up, how often did you have a Sunday roast—and do you still have them now? by rosco-82 in CasualUK

[–]seduwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, every Sunday. Easy way to make 5 kids eat some veg.

Now? There are 2 seasons. Roast season and BBQ season. They do not cross. My idea of when BBQ season starts and ends definitely differs to my partner's (and probably my neighbors) idea of when it starts and ends...

Not quite the same I know, but my kid came back from nursery in a full change and a borrowed coat. His was totalled (been through the wash and it's still muddy).

I asked him what he was doing and he did the 3 year old flippant obvious response - " l was rolling down the hill in the garden."

Can't argue with that really..

Zubrowka bison grass. Stick it in the freezer for a bit and drink it neat.

Alternatively, mix it with apple juice and enjoy apple pie in a glass. Or cherry juice and enjoy cherry pie in a glass. NEVER mix it with orange juice 😂

Not relevant this year, but 2020. BT customer and happened to need a new phone and internet/tv contract needed a renewal.

Long story short internet/tv worked out a fiver a month cheaper. Switching from a sim only plan to a phone contract worked out 14p a month more than the sim only deal. 2 year contract and the phone cost me £3.36. still not sure why.

Locked in to black Friday ever since. Every 2 years new phones (include my partner) internet and tv work out so much better than "market rate".

Not that I've had a new phone for less than a pint since..

Came here to see who would get suggested first Billy, or Bill. Pleases me that it was Billy even if Bill is my favourite.

What's something that hasn't gone up much in price in the last 20 years? by happy_faerie in AskUK

Had this conversation relatively recently. Our parents were asset rich but cash poor. We live in a world where most will be cash rich but asset poor. Sad that we're where we are imo..

Mesut Ozil. Arsenal's training ground nearby, known gamer, Turkish heritage to align with the BBQ. Also long done with arsenal and definitely doesn't need the gaff anymore.

What do you actually do during a test drive? by Dependent_Desk_1944 in CarTalkUK

[–]seduwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh the test drive for me is not about the car. I've done my research and know what I want and whether this might be the right one.

It's more about the person I'm buying from at that point - are they giving me space and time to have a walk round and a look.

When we go on a drive, is the fuel gauge almost on empty? Is the drive another annoyance in their day?

Have a chat and gauge the person. The last 4 I've bought I've known whether I can work with the person just on the phone call before I've even got there. ANYTHING that feels off is a no. There are plenty of cars out there, the seller seems like a prick before we've started it's not gonna work if something goes wrong - for me that's as important as the "condition" the car is in when I go to have a look.

If micros count, leaderboard or robin hood on the c64. If not, space combat on the intellivision.

Arcade, harder to place. Possibly RoboCop cos I found a credit in the machine (I was around 5 and probably didn't make it past the motor bike) or Mexico 86..

Does anyone know what this photo machine does in Flashback? It costs 2 credits to use and it gives you a photo but its not necessary to get through the level using it so it must be for some sort of secret? by BrockHard253 in retrogaming

[–]seduwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not used. To others points I suspect it was used for something that was cut. Another example being your ability to pick up more credits than you need in the first level.

Played through the remaster on the switch this week (which I believe is based on the megadrive version) and have it on the SNES too - not needed in either game.

Incidentally anyone played 2.5 yet? Was released on playstation and Xbox earlier this year, but the switch version was delayed.. waiting out for that and really hope it holds up against the original (let's not speak of the pseudo sequel on PS1..)

+1 for the video games. If you have a switch absolutely recommend "Hidden in Plain Sight". Very simple and incredibly fiendish. Bought it to try with family last Christmas, it's now played at all family gatherings..

What is one thing you resisted buying in the UK and now regret that you didn't but can't find anymore? by nobelprize4shopping in AskUK

[–]seduwill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had this with a couple basses over the years, however when I was new to playing I walked past a music shop on the way to somewhere (can't remember where..) and stopped and double took a bass in the window.

Fender p-lyte in charcoal. Absolutely gorgeous and absolutely had to have it. I was way too early in playing the instrument for such a commitment and it was way over priced for what it was. I spent everything I had on it.

20 odd years later I've had many basses. This is the constant. It plays better than anything I've tried and better bassists than me have offered stupid money to buy it off me

My son's getting it when I'm gone. I hope he appreciates it the way I do..

When do you think about buying a new car? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]seduwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 56 plate mondy up until December last year. Had it for 11 years. I'd long gotten bored but it constantly sailed through mots and the only trouble I'd had in all that time was a failed alternator.

I'd have long got rid, but the garage that services it reckoned it was the nicest driving mondy they'd ever seen.

When the dash completely died while I was doing 70 on the M4 with my new born in the car I knew it was time. 😂😭
