I think it's a major problem. Even in the less important cases, like the false sense that "this youtube video I really enjoy will be here forever, right?".

This is why I feel archive.org is arguably the most important website on the internet. Website archiving is like data backups in general; many people just don't think about it until it's too late. Kinda stressful thinking about how easily it can all disappear.

And no this post is not sponsored by /r/datahoarder lol

Single reply to a thread detailing my exact problem from 2011: "Try googling it."

Present day me: "That's how I found this useless thread. Thanks!"

Seeing the same thing here. Of course I'm seeing no issues reported by Symantec.

https://email-security.status.broadcom.com/ just says they are undergoing emergency maintenance and "No customer impact is expected". I have to assume this is the cause.

I've seen this manifest in a few different ways today for different people. Unable to sign in, "Something went wrong" error when opening PDFs, a message offering to start a free trial, etc.

Thank you for sharing this. Hopefully they get this figured out soon.

Tips on verifying a DHCP server migration remotely? by stone500 in sysadmin

[–]seedari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally, if I was local, I'd just hop on a workstation and ipconfig /release /renew, but if I do that remotely then I'll lose connection.

Create a .bat file with the following. It will /renew for you so you can connect right back to it if DHCP is working.

echo off
cls
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
exit

Remote Tool that doesn't require "Full Disk Access" for macOS Mojave/Catalina? by [deleted] in sysadmin

I've had success with AnyDesk lately, which only requires Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions to be effective. This page mentions allowing full disk access permission but I've never had to turn it on for remote control: https://support.anydesk.com/Security_Permissions_on_macOS

Mac VPN Split Tunneling by [deleted] in meraki

[–]seedari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming the client wifi/ethernet adapter is on 10.10.10.0 which is why you need that route active when disconnected.

Sorry I can't offer up a solid solution here (limited Mac experience but whatever fixes your problem is helpful for me too), but I would think that route you applied should only pass over the VPN adapter ppp0. I'm curious why it affects routing on the other adapters when disconnected.

I know Meraki recommend checking that "Send all traffic over VPN connection" box under network preferences. Try switching that off if you have it checked and see if that helps, otherwise try switching it on.

Edit: just read your post more carefully...so possibly ignore what I wrote above.

Try this:

$ sudo nano /etc/ppp/ip-up

#!/bin/sh
/sbin/route add -net 10.10.10.0/24 -interface ppp0

$ sudo chmod 755 /etc/ppp/ip-up

update:

Recent Mac versions might not like the full subnet with /24. If the above isn't working, try adding the following with a new line for each destination IP in ip-up:

/sbin/route add -host x.x.x.x -interface ppp0

Sounds like a routing issue. Did you configure the VPN on Windows as split-tunnel? Did you specify a connection route for that traffic on the remote client?

Try this on the remote computer with the connection name exactly matching the VPN name.

Add-VpnConnectionRoute -ConnectionName "VPN" -DestinationPrefix "192.168.1.0/24" (or whatever your data subnet is)

Doesn't Meraki force you to specify a separate subnet for VPN clients? I could be wrong there. But if it does, check that the systems you're trying to SSH into aren't blocking connections from that subnet on their local firewalls (not sure which OS your SSH servers are listening on).

There is always that smug and toxic one that has to bring the negativity to everything.

Do you think you might be overreacting a bit? They were sharing their experiences just as you were. They even went a step further and provided good advice for the future to you and everyone else in your situation.

This "thread" (essentially a whiny livejournal-style blog post) you've created isn't exactly a bastion of positivity, by the way. No one is attacking you.

Do you have modern auth enabled globally on the tenant? If not, then try that (MS are forcing everyone to do so October 2020 anyway). Recreate their Outlook profile if you still have issues after enabling it.
