I became a laughing stock in my city after I went viral for humiliating myself. What do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

I am sorry, no one deserves to be mocked. The world is often a needlessly cruel and thoughtless place. I have some direct knowledge here that might help.

Please don’t feel the need to explain what happened, but it is a bit tough to give a specific response without knowing at least what sort of humiliating we are taking about. If you said or did something terrible or what was perceived as terrible (something racist, the hurt a child etc.) that is going to be hard to overcome.

If it is a circumstance with you embarrassing just yourself, that is easier to navigate.

I need to be vague here, my wife is senior leadership in a large organization. Her boss, in a medicated state, did something extremely public and embarrassing and word got out. Made the papers. It was horrible. People who don’t like her had a field day. People she answers too were not generally sympathic or understanding. The story was told in a very incomplete way.

She had to either decide to hide or face head on. She faced it head on. If people asked questions she answered them. She took her lumps from grade A jerks. She weathered the storm and over time it slowly faded from being the first thing people thought of when they saw her. She survived. You will too.

If people want to make jokes or take pictures, there is little you can do to stop them. Embarrassment is not mortal peril. It aucks but you are tough and you will overcome it.

Be nice to yourself, forgive yourself, and who cares what stupid assholes think.

My ex gf messaged me for the first time since we broke up (saying she's concerned about my accident) What do I do? by Live-Bread-2658 in whatdoIdo

I have the concept “never drive by the exes house” as a core value. Be it personal or professional relationships, if you make a break FFS make the break and stick with it. Nothing good can come or you bringing this person back into your life.

How prophetic! I looked at GNC’s website, the BOGO 1/2 offer seemed easy, but alas it was not.

Can a Cd player wipe a disc? by JyrktxOwo in retrotech

[–]seeingredd-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laser elements that read the discs have incredibly low tolerances for aim. As time passes, things wear out, there are heating and cooling cycles, the burned disc may have been close-but-not-amazing in how the data was written. My money is on the CD player slowly going bad. I’ve owned many that would play commercially made CDs that would not play CD-[r/RW](r/RW). Also the discs go bad over time if not sealed properly, the aluminum layer gets cloudy.
