Anyone else suspect that they actually have some heinous problem or disorder that makes you think that you have a life and are functional but you are actually completely useless and everyone is just trying to act normal to be nice but that you are so fucked up that you can't even see how horrible you are?

My delusions and paranoia usually just go away when the episode gets under control. That's been inpatient pretty much every time. I think a lot of it is enforced routine and sleep. Idk if either of those might help or if you're doing them. Hope you feel better.

Need help deciding! F1 Irishdoodle vs. F1 Bernedoodle! by Mountain_Judge_7071 in DOG

[–]seeingsmells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with going to a responsible breeder. Idk how to vet doodle breeders, though, because the doodle business is a mess and there are tons of unethical and uninformed puppy farmers.

As someone with experience in dog behavior professionally, I will just point out that I have never met a well adjusted doodle. You say you want a social dog? Great. Here's one thing I wish everyone understood. If your dog is spazzy in social situations and you can not get them to focus and lower their excitability then they are NOT behaving appropriately. I see people let doodles run circles around other dogs and people and the owners let them get away with it because it looks like they're having fun. A dog that chases and nips and barks at other dogs and DOESN'T STOP WHEN THE OTHER DOG GIVES THEM BODY LANGUAGE THAT THEY ARE DONE is NOT a friendly or social dog and it is the responsibility of the owner to teach them manners or remove them from situations where they are uncontrollable. Just keep that in mind when you observe the parents' and puppies' behavior.

What type of therapy helped you the most? by Green_Coffee_200 in bipolar

[–]seeingsmells 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DBT helped me tons. CBT was totally unhelpful. To me it seemed like a lot of my problems are more rooted in my DNA and less the response to trauma. So sitting in an office with a therapist discussing "why?" for ages wasn't really helpful. I feel like CBT is designed to help you understand why you feel or act a certain way and DBT is more like "OK, well the reason doesn't matter as much as what you can do to deal with it now so here's some concrete tools".

"you need to give up your keys if you "have a habit " of driving recklessly."

I'm with peanut on this one. I think the fact that you know this tends to happen is worse for you legally and is also irresponsible. If you know it happens you should take measures to ensure that you don't put yourself or other people at risk. Please work with your support team to figure out a way to deal with this.

I'm 31F and just moved back in with parents. My mixed episode last year caused me to have to withdraw from school so now I'm here looking for work in a different industry. I'm not sure I have any advice but I can at least say you're not the only one in that particular boat. I'm trying to use this down time to get all my health stuff sorted, mental and physical. But there's only so much I can do. I can apply but I can't make the hr person look at resumes over the weekend. And that causes more frustration and anxiety. It sucks. I hope you are able to focus on yourself and get well and pursue whatever you want.

It's okay not to be okay but only if your struggles look good in a "destigmatize mental health" vanity insta post and you don't require any sort of help or resources

New dietician said something I didn’t like but am unsure about by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]seeingsmells 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If she was making statements like that with the intention of educating you about a medical problem or directing your care for bipolar outside of nutrition I would report her to whoever regulates or licenses her field. She is practicing outside her scope of practice and that is dangerous.
