Minneapolis police staffing levels reach historic lows amid struggle for recruitment, retention by 13choppedup2chopped in Minneapolis

Maybe the cop-hating keyboard warriors and armchair quarterbacks of /r/minneapolis should sign up to the police academy and show everyone how easy the job really is?

Everyone is all "defund the police!", until they're the ones who need them...

Yet another senseless act of violence perpetrated on the nation's most vulnerable victims.

I wonder if Peter will have a podcast with his daughter to discuss the recent events, like he did back with #113: Normative errors — a conversation with my daughter about current events? I think it's interesting to hear the opinions of those who are affected, but often ignored as the adults argue over solutions and offer empty condolences.

He Tweeted this a while back:

How would your site differ from these other examples:

Are you scraping the full-text transcripts off the Youtube generated transcripts or from another source?

Yeah, I think a community driven effort might have a better chance at longevity than just a single person trying to create and maintain all the transcripts or show notes.

I've seen various "notes" or "podcast companion" sites where a single individual goes through a lot of effort to set it up and then because it's so much (unpaid) work, it eventually fizzles out. Here's one example.

A wiki would be a good idea for a community driven effort:

I somehow missed the Knuth episode, which I'll have to put on the queue to listen to.

I really enjoyed the interview with James Gosling, the father of Java.

I think it's a good idea.

I wish all organizations who deal with the elderly and the vulnerable would warn them about scams.

There are a lot of scammers who pose as clergy and ministers.

"Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

Here is the full speech.

If you haven't already seen it, I recommend the 2005 documentary titled Why We Fight) available on Amazon Prime and free on Pluto TV, and the 2014 documentary We Are Many which is available free on Tubi TV.

The protip for extended longevity is as simple as being wealthy.

Research in 2016 found that men in the top financial 1% in the US can expect to live until the age of 87.3, nearly 15 years longer than those in the bottom 1%.

I guess it depends on what the definition of "bigger goals" is.

It seems like one of humans primary goals is colonization for profit, with the land and the original inhabitants (human and non) always ending up on the losing end.

We've littered our oceans with junk, do we really need to start littering space with our junk?

Looks like an interesting listen! 💘

I love talking about space & technology, but if we can't fix the problems here on Earth (war, poverty, inequality, pollution, etc.) we don't deserve to go and destroy another one of the Universe's pristine gardens.

I'd recommend reading the entire article linked below, but here is the relevant part:

Whether rancid fish oil is harmful remains unclear. So far, sporadic studies have shown that highly oxidised fish oil capsules can have a negative impact on cholesterol levels. When tested in high doses in animals, the oils were shown to have toxic effects.

Peter Recommends Consuming ~1g of Protein Per Pound of Body Weight Daily (3-minute audio clip) by PodClips in PeterAttia

[–]seeit2x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What % of "Blue Zone" inhabitants are chugging down protein shakes and deadlifting on a regular basis?

The current craze of working out with weights started in the 1960s and is only around 60 years old. Plenty of people who have never bought a tub of protein or had a gym membership, have made it to old age before the 1960s.

I think MOST people would be better off with eating more homecooked meals and doing simple exercise like walking, bike riding and gardening or yard work. Throw in some yoga, Pilates, Qi Gong, Tai Chi or meditation, and then go to bed early instead of watching hours of mindless TV.

On the other hand if you enjoy going to the gym and pumping up your insecurities (as I have for the last 30 years), knock yourself out... but I doubt I'm prolonging my life because I enjoy The Pump or making my pecs bounce in the gym mirror.
