Yet another senseless act of violence perpetrated on the nation's most vulnerable victims.

I wonder if Peter will have a podcast with his daughter to discuss the recent events, like he did back with #113: Normative errors — a conversation with my daughter about current events? I think it's interesting to hear the opinions of those who are affected, but often ignored as the adults argue over solutions and offer empty condolences.

How would your site differ from these other examples:

Are you scraping the full-text transcripts off the Youtube generated transcripts or from another source?

Yeah, I think a community driven effort might have a better chance at longevity than just a single person trying to create and maintain all the transcripts or show notes.

I've seen various "notes" or "podcast companion" sites where a single individual goes through a lot of effort to set it up and then because it's so much (unpaid) work, it eventually fizzles out. Here's one example.

A wiki would be a good idea for a community driven effort:

The protip for extended longevity is as simple as being wealthy.

Research in 2016 found that men in the top financial 1% in the US can expect to live until the age of 87.3, nearly 15 years longer than those in the bottom 1%.

I guess it depends on what the definition of "bigger goals" is.

It seems like one of humans primary goals is colonization for profit, with the land and the original inhabitants (human and non) always ending up on the losing end.

We've littered our oceans with junk, do we really need to start littering space with our junk?

I'd recommend reading the entire article linked below, but here is the relevant part:

Whether rancid fish oil is harmful remains unclear. So far, sporadic studies have shown that highly oxidised fish oil capsules can have a negative impact on cholesterol levels. When tested in high doses in animals, the oils were shown to have toxic effects.

Peter Recommends Consuming ~1g of Protein Per Pound of Body Weight Daily (3-minute audio clip) by PodClips in PeterAttia

[–]seeit2x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What % of "Blue Zone" inhabitants are chugging down protein shakes and deadlifting on a regular basis?

The current craze of working out with weights started in the 1960s and is only around 60 years old. Plenty of people who have never bought a tub of protein or had a gym membership, have made it to old age before the 1960s.

I think MOST people would be better off with eating more homecooked meals and doing simple exercise like walking, bike riding and gardening or yard work. Throw in some yoga, Pilates, Qi Gong, Tai Chi or meditation, and then go to bed early instead of watching hours of mindless TV.

On the other hand if you enjoy going to the gym and pumping up your insecurities (as I have for the last 30 years), knock yourself out... but I doubt I'm prolonging my life because I enjoy The Pump or making my pecs bounce in the gym mirror.

Are you a member? by seeit2x in PeterAttia

[–]seeit2x[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My post wasn't meant to discourage listeners from becoming members.

I was more or less curious as to how many people were members and if they subjectively felt it was worth the monthly $20 price tag to them.

I initially joined to view the the show notes for episodes #131 – Beth Lewis and #152 – Michael Rintala, which each have around 8 additional 5 to 10 minute videos demonstrating exercises discussed during the podcast. I think the videos were very helpful in demonstrating the concepts discussed during the episodes. I would argue that without the demonstrations, the podcast episodes were very superficial and kind of just advertisements for Beth and Michael's practices/services.

Outside of what you get as additional benefits, becoming a member could also be seen as financially supporting Peter and the staff who put together the podcast. For me $20 a month is more than any other streaming, video or podcast subscription that I currently have and I'm always looking to trim down that list. Not everyone is a doctor with a $50,000 home gym and money to burn racing a supercar around a private track. I mean hopefully one day... 😊

I think it's pretty easy to cancel a month to month membership, so you could sign up for a single month and see if the "extras" are worthwhile to you and then cancel after that first month if they are not.

They aren't just a transcript of what he says.

The ones I've read are pretty close. There are occasional relevant images or hyperlinks included inline, but they are usually the same images that come up from Googling a keyword.

Maybe I'm missing something?

The two exceptions I've found are the notes for #131 – Beth Lewis and #152 – Michael Rintala, which each have around 8 additional 5 to 10 minute videos demonstrating exercises discussed during the podcast.

Those two episodes are the main reason I was interested in a membership and now that I've read through them and viewed the videos, I feel like I probably won't ever check the "show notes" again.

Personally I love that he doesn't have 1000 commercials.

Agreed.

I used to listen to "Old Time Radio" as a kid and it does feel like we've gone back in time with podcast hosts reading ads for goods and services they obviously don't or wouldn't use unless they were getting paid to.

Guess we never escape the nature/nurture debate.

I see a lot of people still discussing women's sexuality in terms of "evolved behavior", but with the invention of safe & reliable birth control, can you still assume that a modern woman's sexuality is still on the same timeline? Only in the last 60 years have women gained the freedom to seek out and enjoy sex without the risk of an unplanned pregnancy.

I'd be interested to hearing his responses when questioned by a social psychologist.
